Where to go?

I'm just getting into the EDM scene (or well, I've made noises). So far I've tried the trials for Cubase, Sonar, FL Studio, Reason, and some Native Intstruments things. FL Studio is really the only one I can make a full song except for Reason which really just feels like a glorified VST though. I'm stumped though. I feel like FL Studio is limiting but I don't have anywhere to get real training for Sonar or Cubase or Ableton or whatever. So I need some advice:

1. What's a good midi-controller for a beginner?

2. Which programs should I use. Or, what do most people use?

3. Where can I get training? I've used video tutorials for Photoshop and those worked out nicely. But I can't seem to find any for ANY daw. It's agitating. I saw a couple of books for DAWs at Guitar Center, but idk about books they're sort of boring to read.

4. I'm thinking about getting a laptop for making EDM (either techno, trance, progressive, experimental, hell IDK). Am I an idiot? Also, which has the better DAWs Mac or Windows? Anyone have any suggestions for where to get good laptops? I was thinking either Alienware or Voodoo.

5. Am I the only one who thinks Cubase looks really ugly? I feel like I'm back in Windows 3.1 with it.

Anyways, I'm a senior in High School and I don't really plan on majoring in music when I go to College, or atleast I don't plan on thinking about it till I actually can produce something worth listening to. So who's got some tips?
