Members chadsxe
How long is to long for a USB cable to be when hooking up a midi controller? I have a Novation ReMOTE SL 61 and I need a cavle that is about 10 feet long to be able to put the controller were I want it. Is there any delay issues to be concerned with? Members Tony Scharf
Ive run USB for MIDI only up to 15 feet, and I'd imagine you could go longer. If there is audio involved, I'd imagine that may be quite different.
Members gilbertopb
Recommendded maximum is near 5 meters. I saw a kind of cable with an adapter for extending that amount, but you may look at eletronic components store.
Members packrat
Delay, not really, more signal degradation due to loss in long cables. Some USB hubs are dumb repeaters and probably won't save you, some regenerate signals (high speed powered hubs usually, or anything on which you can mix high and low speed devices without speed degradation). MOTU also supply damn long USB cables with their MIDI Interface kit. I've never opened one, but it looks quite long, say 17cm diameter, 9 turns, damn close to 5m. Members orangefunk
I've used longer cables than 5 metres and then discovered that my USB controller won't power on...
