Emu Planet Earth, Hype Or A Must Have??

Hey anyone out there have any experience with the EMU planet Earth. I usually do not mess with EMU as I have never been a fan of their samples, so I steered clear of their rack modules (PLANET: PHATT, DANCE, ETC).

I have recently heard that their Plant Earth module/rom is the best out there for world/ethnic sounds and it seems rather pricey for that module used compared to the Proteus 2000 and other EMU planet series.

Can someone shed some light on this, I currently have the Roland ASIA expansion card in my XV3080 but need more depth to my ethnic sound library. I do not want to waste my time looking for an EMU planet phatt if it is not going to add depth to my current sound library.

Please any suggestions on romplers with excellent ethinic sounds, or plugs for the EMU Planet Earth???????

well, I had the Planet Earth rom for my PX7 when I had it. the sounds werent bad, but I find I like the world rom in my fantom x6 better.

when i sold the PX, I got the sample bank for the Emulator X software, and it does the job too.

I was referencing the SRX-09. I like it quite a bit.

The emulator X is a software version of the EMU hardware series. http://www.emu.com for all the details. Its a very nice, and I think under appreciated software sampler. The Planet earth library for that costs $50.

As to how the two compare....they are pretty close in my opinion. You get *more* with the EMU, but the roland SRX seems to be more useful (to me anyway).

I should state that I am not really working on authentic world music, so that should be taken into account when listening to my opinions.

I used to own the Planet Earth, and had and have still a Roland JV1080 with the World and Asia cards (which are on the SRX, I believe)...the Planet Earth was a bit stronger on the percussion sounds, but most of the instrument sounds blew compared to the SRJVs IMO...I also found the Planet Earth's interface incredibly cumbersome, much preferred the JV's interface, so if you do get a planet earth, you might want to use an editor with it. I liked the filter options, though, the multiple channel arpeggiators, and the superbeats feature. The onboard effects sucked, they should've spared the effects and threw in an extra pair of assignable outs.
