I have the MPD16.

Pros: Easy to map the midi, and two banks of 16 pads is pretty nice. Easy as balls to operate.

Cons: I don't really dig the feel of the pads. Response is a little mediocre and they should be softer with more 'feel'.

It has stood idle on my desk for quite a while.

I've been on this hunt for awhile too....

Ordered the AKAI MPD-16, hated it. Feel was awful...

Just received the Trigger Finger, much better, operationally

superior to the AKAI, but still I find going back to the keys

on my synth and feeling more "in control" of the dynamics.

Maybe I've programmed drum tracks on keys for too long

and I should just stick with what I know.

The Trigger Finger is going back on Monday.

I haven't read anything about the Korg to make me believe

it would be any different. I just don't find these things as

responsive as keys ! Sorry.

Forget the AKAI MPD16; it is a $99 product, and it feels like it's worth $99. AKAI has a new product (MPD24) which is at the same price point as the Trigger Finger and padKONTROL (all street at $199).

I would suggest demoing these three products at your local store:

M-Audio Trigger Finger

Korg padKONTROL

Akai MPD24 (I haven't personally tried this yet)

When comparing the Trigger Finger to the padKONTROL, I think the answer depends on which features you value the most. The Trigger Finger has pads that are velocity and pressure sensitive, while the padKONTROL's pads are only velocity sensitive.

Some believe the padKONTROL's pads are better than the TF, but I couldn't tell a significant difference (I sold a TF and replaced it with the PK).

Also, the TF has more sliders and buttons, while the padKONTROL has its unique flam and drum roll features (part of the functionality of the X-Y pad).
