Members robfosters
What would people recommend for a good second hand rack synth for lush pads and soaraway trance leads. I imagine the name Clavia or Waldorf will come up. Does anyone have have the nord rack. .If so, whats it like?

Members robfosters
Current main synth is CS6X and I will spend 300-400 pounds.
Members Khazul
Hmmm - I might suggest saving a few more readies and trying to go for Virus B desktop, NL2 rack, JP8080, Nova rack maybe, but actually there are loads of decent s/h synths in this price range - the above is a boring list of the most obvious. For pads - consider softsynths - this is the only thing (due to latency) that soft synths are useful for if you actually like to play your synth from a keyboard. Also if you want trancey nnoises and pads - then make sure you also have loads of useful fx, particularly for making good pads from scratch - delays, verbs, phaser/chorus/flange, seq mod manglers etc - probably all downloadable as plugins... BTW - which age of trance are you into? old school ibiza/anthem are newer psy/hard core styles? - if old-school - then Virus B or JP8080 may better suit you. [Edit - just had another thought - the new Roland SH-201 may actually be the best choice for you...]
Members robfosters
Yes, i'm into the old school stuff. Cafe Del Mar, Oakenfold, ATB, all that stuff. I remember trying out the keyboard version of the JP a few years back and it was fantastic, so I might go down that road. It has bundles of real time controllers as well that I like. I will have a look round the net for audio samples. Thanks for your help.
Members Khazul
Then if you like the JP - then definately check out the new SH-201 - not exactly the same sounds, but maybe close enough and more flexible. There a load of people here have bought them recently also check out http://forums.rolandclan.info/?action=show_all&fid=
Members robfosters
I am now seriously thinking about the sh-201. It sounds awesome and looks incredibly easy to use. What a great price as well (under 500 quid). I may dump my CS6X as I am not a massive fan of the user interface and go for a second rack synth for other music style sounds (Triton, Motif). I wonder if they will rack the new Korg X50?
