Kurzweil K2600XS Vs Roland Fantom X8

I have a Fantom X8 and love it to pieces. However for gigging reasons its become way to cumbersome to move, so I am contemplating swapping it for an X7.

However that would lead me to need a weighted action board for home use. I have played a K2600, and loved it, excellent controller with so many options, and excellent onboard sounds. However I have only played the K2600 and not the full 88 key K2600X. So I was wondering how the key action is on it? Especially in comparison to the fantastic action on the Fantom X8.

the action on my k2600xs is outstanding, imho. some might find it a little stiff. you know what is odd?... sometimes i find the action a little stiff, however, most of the time the action is very smooth. light and responsive. it must be a function of my energy level.

great keybed and it seems to be very durable.

i don't know how it compares to roland 88 action.

i strongly suggest you try a k2600x b4 u buy.

individual tastes in keybeds vary DRAMATICALLY.

don't buy b4 you try.

i do love my kurz

Wise words, i've been searching all throughout the region for a dealer with the K2600X. Only found dealers with the PC Series, no K Series. Does the K2600X share the same keybed as the PC2X and PC1X?

idk

i used to know when i bought my kurz.

i have no recollection of the process or results.

except, of course, that i did buy a k2600xs. i know i am ocd and did a great amount of research about keybeds.

too bad the booze has dimmed the memory.

if you're looking for just a digital piano for home use, try the Casio PX-110 - great piano tone and pretty inexpensive. Not as good a piano tone as you're probably used to (with an X8) but not bad... better than a lot of other stuff out there (including the Kurzweils, IMHO) and it will certainly do for home use. It does have very few patches tho, so if you want a synth with tons of patches, this isn't the way to go.

i maintain that opinions regarding keybeds can vary DRAMATICALLY.

try the kurz and decide for urself.

remember that ray kurzweil helped design the k2600. he was an innovator.

he is a very bright guy.

oh gee, maybe his absence has affected the release of new kboards...

OK... but my comment was about tone. That being said, opinions on tone can vary dramatically, as well. All of us have our opinions and you should too! Read what you see here to get a good idea of what is out there and what a lot of people like but, more importantly, go out to your local music store and try things out... see what tone you like best and what feel you like best!
