Members sporter
I play 80-100 gigs a year on a weighted 88 keyboard (Yamaha P250) and use a P200 in my home studio for practice and various projects. I've noticed a pain in my middle finger (the one used to make obscene gestures. . ) in the area between the knuckle and the nail which, if I am reading a diagram correctly is the Middle phalanx See diagram: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20060301/810.html Last night I rehearsed about 2 hours, and woke up 1:00 am with a very acute pain. I took a couple of Tylenol, and it seems OK this morning, yet it is very stiff and hard to bend. Also, there is slight swelling. I guess I should see a doctor, but wanted to see if anyone had an experience they might relate...I'm scheduled to play three times this coming weekend, and do not plan to play any before then, hopefully it will be better. Thanks
Members Tony Scharf
Really, only a qualified doctor can make a diagnosis, but I have had something similar happen, particularly when I am practicing a lot and working a lot (I am a computer programmer, so i type a LOT). In my case, I had bruised the cartiliage in my index finger. I took a few weeks off work and resisted playing and it healed fine and hasnt re-occurred. Of course, as I said, you should see a doctor about it if your concerned.
Members purveyor2
simple osteoarthritis can flare up like that, if you are ~50 or older that is the likely diagnosis. go get an xray, if significant arthritic changes are seen - there's your diagnosis. If not, could be soft tissue...and should resolve with a little rest. OA in the digits is a big problem for us keyboardists.
Members BlueTimber
See a doctor. It might just be a little sore, it might be arthritis (hopefully not). Seems like it might be something to be concerned about if your finger began to swell up, and didn't just ache a little.

Members XorAxAx
It's probably something obvious, but then again it could be something from way out there. I had similar symptoms occur when I was a child, and it turned out to be an allergic reaction to a prescription drug I was taking. The only way to really tell is to go to a doctor and get some sweet diagnostic action. You need to be especially mindful of this issue because it is in your hand, which you need to play. Members leavity
It might be the begining of psoriatic arthitis, which is an offshoot of psororaisis, a chronic skin disease. P A usually affects the fingers and toes. Hopefully, i'm wrong.
