Members superpowter77
Those were release I think 6 years ago, I read on past posts back in 2004 and realized those units were selling for $500 and $400 respectively. Now I was looking for a xv-5080 on ebay, found it for a fantastic price of $850, with no extra memory, no expansion cards no nothing. I've seem the xv-5050 with a starting bid of $750. Crazy eh!. I got my motif rack es already and it will be my main synth and also have an xv-2020 as well, I need to add an xv-5080 just because of their great brass instruments and effects. The fantom xr doesn't come with big improvements over his old predecesor and it's not worth a $1400 price tag. :

XV-5080 will load AKAI samples, Fantom will NOT. We don't need to tell that world's largest sample library is still AKAI. Second thing. XV synth will load patches from: JV-80, JV-880, JV-90, JV-1080, JV-2080, JV-1010, XP-30, XP-50, XP-60, XP-80 synths. Fantom will not. There are thousands of free patches online. There goes the answer for the price of XV-5080.

As far as the MIDI interface goes, I though we were discussing the 5080 specifically. /still owns a 5080 for the 32-part multitimbrality and R-BUS connectivity

Members hogberto
the 5050 is the stealth module of the synth world. since being released it has attracted minimal comment or press interest, which is a shame. if i could afford one i'd buy one. Members mrcpro
You're kidding about the 5050 right? I mean, I've seen 'em under four bills all the time. Tons of them. I'd say that it's one of the better bargains in a used rompler module. The 5080 is a special case top of the line box that serves as a bridging platform between the two Roland expansion board series. I've had my eye on them for years and I'm not sure their used price is going to budge anytime soon.

This is actually what I'll probably pick up next in a rompler box. Since I've got so much Roland stuff already, they're a better deal to me than an XV-5080 at their current used price of around $750. That's a lot of bang for the buck, and a true bargain IMO.
