maybe bumping his original thread would've worked better? :D

but yeah, i'd like to hear more about it myself. i just got back into town and saw his post on E-M, but got a checksum error when trying to load his G2 Performance in the Editor. never had that happen before. weird.

unfortunately though, it doesn't seem like he's around more than once a day or so lately.

EDIT: not sure if you saw this? explains it pretty well, but seems to be a work in progress...

I'm still getting my live rig off the ground but, at this point it looks like:

Sony Viao
15", P4 2.5gHz, 525mb Ram, Firewire PC-Card

LIVE 4

MOTU 828mk2

Nord Modular G1 Keyboard

Nord Modular G2 Engine

Midi Knob Box
(probably a Behringer BCR 2000 [x2]).

The main sequencer is the G2, running most of the main percussion and synth sequences. The sequencers I made in the G2 are comprised of 2 parts: Sequencer banks, and Chance modules. The Sequencer banks are traditional, pre-recorded/programmed banks of sequences, where as the "Change" section basically works by having certain note/beat with a certain probability rate (for instance the Kick will trigger on the 5th beat of the measure 25% of the time).

The G2 also chips in as a drum synth and noise box/synth. These are all FM or PM (phase mod) based synths. The sequencers control mainly the G1's synths, the G2 synth drums, and perhaps a soft-sampler in LIVE.

The G1 is strictly synth sounds, with one bass synth, 2 Casio CZ emulations, and a 4th synth I haven't decided on. The G1 is tweaked via the four banks of 18 knobs on it's front panel.

LIVE will handle loops and provide some stability to the tracks, and also act as an effects box with stuttering, delays and quantization. I think perhaps some live looping might also be in order, but that will take time to implement once I get familiar with the system.

The MIDI controller will mainly control the G2's sequencers and synths. LIVE will mostly be controlled with the QWERTY Keyboard and maybe a few knobs for levels/real-time effects.

The G2 sends MIDI Clock out into the MOTU 828 and into LIVE. All audio is routed into the MOTU 828 and probably going to be Bussed into LIVE for effects.

Is that complicated enough?

Geez! Quite some interest in my little adventure...

Well here is an update.

So far it's BASICALLY how I figured it to go... I did take UNFED's advice though... Also, I'm doing the testing on my Mac G4, mainly to get all of the different patches set up properly... porting all this to Windoze will be... fun...

Anyways:

Nord Modular G1:

Bass Synth, CZ Synth 1, CZ Synth 1, Percussion Synth (x6)

Nord Modular G2:

Percussion Sequencer (x12), Synth Sequencer (x4), Percussion Synth (x4)

LIVE 4:

Effects, Impulse, Simpler

All audio now runs into the 828 and into LIVE on separate tracks. Most tracks have some sort of effect, reverb, delay, Grain Delay (my fav!).

I also really like Simpler and Impulse, VERY handy... Really making a lot of use out of my Circuit-Bend sample library (a friend compiled tons of stuff for me, bless his little soul).

I haven't really touched working with actual sampled loops or sequence loops in LIVE, which is my next venture, though at this rate I might not need to. I would LOVE to see what LIVE can do with real-time sampling, but at this point even my G4 is flinching with over 1gig of Ram...

I don't actually have a Midi Knob box, so I'm using my MS2000 to substitute... even just messing with levels and a mouse, a LOT of variation...

I'll record the results ASAP and post it... It's pretty basic, but very promising...
