Members numrologst
I'm kinda new to electronic type music... I recently realized how cool my nord percussion kits are. I'd like to use them to do some electronic type music. I can cuse my midi keyboard to control the percussion kits, but it's hard to do more complex rhythms. So i believe i am supposed to use some kinf of sequencer. Is this a common practice to use the kits on the nord lead 2x? What program should I use to sequence. I want to be able to tell the nord what to hit and when. Please help me out... I dont wanna sound like an idiot but i do need some serious help. I also have a poly evolver, can i use that sequencer with the nord kits or no?
Members kooki_sf
There are a whole bunch of options out there right now. think about what your ideal concept for interacting with the nord would be and its probably been implemented. is this for live use? studio? do you intend to be doing other things and using the drums as backing? whats your budget? Members numrologst
it's not gonna be for live use... Just for studio use. I'll spend whatever I need to do it right. I am out of rack spaces in the studio right now, and I would have to do some serious rearranging even to fit a 1ru device... That being said, I would prefer to interface with software...But If I have to, I will buy some software and put it under my console or something. It's just for fun, so I'd rather not drop more than $1000 on a solution.
Members kooki_sf
1000 is more than enough. I would personally suggest ableton live plus a midi drum pad of some sort(i use a trigger finger)... or you could go with a cheaper DAW like tracktion or something, but live is really suited for percussion oriented sequencing.. Members numrologst
Oh, and I intend to use it mainly for an electronic album I've been wanting to do lately. I also sometimes interface electronic drums with my regular music. I use reason to make loops and sometimes have some weird elec drum sounds going on under the real drums...kinda flaming lips'ish... But that is like 2% of all the songs I do, and there is always other instrumentation going on... I usually would just print the elec drums to 2" first and then track real drums and the rest of the song. But what I want this for is mainly for electronic album... Basically all synth, a few real instruments and some vox. But I already have nice midi interfaces
Members numrologst
i have a korg microkontrol that has pads on it... I can buy ableton live... I use nuendo or logic... I can rewire ableton into either. When I get ableton...What exactly do I do? PLay the pads, then quantize? or play the pads and interface with the sequencer in ableton? Members kooki_sf
use session view, record different parts to different slots, then play around with em in real time. its quite the jam tool.

Members kooki_sf
just check the section in the manual about recording midi in session view. also, there is a big community in the ableton live forums (ableton.com) that are usually really helpful
Members numrologst
see i didn't want to record midi. I really want to send midi out of the computer to my nord and have it control the percussion kits... Then I wanted to record the kits audio
Members syncretism
If you use Nuendo and Logic, then why are you looking for another sequencer? Use Nuendo or Logic.
