Members Synthoid
Kurzweil. I bought a K2661 about a year ago and it's the best yet for orchestral sounds. Great synth pads as well.
Members Veneficum
Roland Fantom/Juno-G with SRX-06 Complete Orchestra addon card installed seems to be the consensus around here for Synth "keyboards" or romplers. I have heard great things about Kurzweil with the Orchestral ROM, but was not overly impressed myself. Sample libraries are the best bet for orchestra/strings sounds like what mike51 said... Kontakt or EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Gold/Platinum Library are both awesome.

Members EerieDreamZ
Kurzweil. I bought a K2661 about a year ago and it's the best yet for orchestral sounds. Great synth pads as well. Even though I dont have the k2661, and use the older model K2500, I HAVE to agree with this assesment. I love the orchestral sounds on mine and can only imagine that the newer versions are even BETTER!
Members Don Solaris
Got both the Kurz and Roland. When it comes to strings and orchestral, Roland is class above. Go with Roland XP-30, comes with included Orchestral expansion, you can install Orchestral II card - it will make it perfect for your job.
Members stikygum
I always wonder what makes Roland pads so nice. I have to think the automatic compression that happens on the outputs. Seems like the sounds on Roland boards are boosted and compressed to sound more thick and creamy.

Members aeon
I always wonder what makes Roland pads so nice. It's the faerie dust they put in there. Roland JD-990 -> Roland DC-2 -> Roland SRE-555 = I came. cheers, Ian
Members bruto
I've posted this demo before: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=885516&t=1201 3 Synths layered:Korg TR Rack: Double Strings (+ 4 steps)Roland MKS-50: Rich Strings (- 12 steps)Yamaha YS-200: SoftStrings The trick to sounding symphonic is getting a good string patch and adding a realistic bass string. The TR Rack has a very nice string patch, and the analog MKS-50 reaches bass notes easily and powerfully. The YS-200 is FM and this particular string patch sounds more like horns, but it blends in nicely.
