Sounds a bit more Atari 2600 or Bally Astrocade to me... Which means...

I LOVE IT!!!

This is one of the reasons I love the NoiseRing so much. You can get a lot of these digital noise sounds out of it. However this module has more tonal qualities (or at least more easily accessible ones,) so I would very much like to have a kit. (so I can build it in large format)

Visit his website (link on YouTube.) Quite a few cool ideas.

Geez, what's with all the modular makers coming out of the woodwork...STG, MFB and now this.

I think the number of modular manufacturers doubled in just the last two years...

What could be better than building a synth that does everything you want it to do, things you never thought of, and not much in the way of wasted electronics on things you'll never use?

I realize the work-flow isn't to everyone's taste, and some people actually NEED patch memory and other such features, but for a synthesist, there is simply nothing better than a modular (in my opinion of course.)

People haven't had this kind of flexibility available since the 60s/70s, and now it's that x100. I think it's the best thing to happen to synthesizers since those years. (I didn't get to be a part of that round, as I was just coming into existence back then.) :) Just seems like a logical progression (or regression depending on how you look at it.) Either way it's logical, and cool.

I was going to build a modular bitcrusher, than this guy beat me to it complete with nice panels and videos. But, alas time does not allow me to.

Oh well, I will have to add additional features. Competition is good.
:D

Good man. He's a grad student who taught himself microcontroller programming specifically to make these modules, and still had time to have a significant other, go to Nova Musik and hang out with us. AFAIK, the modules were a glimmer in his eye less than a year ago. The moral of the story {coming from the laziest man in the world, so take it with a big grain} is that you'd be surprised how quickly your plans can come to fruition once you get started. So, do it, and post your results on YouTube!

Seems like there are enough people involved in the modular scene now that mechanicals and electricals can be fully separated. If he made a PCB or sold a populated PCB people like suitandtieguy and Banalogue and Metalbox could apply them to the panel of your liking.

Its more efficient and keeps people doing what they are passionate about which is important in this low margin industry.

Definitely. I'd actually prefer this. I have access to the necessary people to get a project like this done myself, but coordinating a friend that can do some milling, with the company that does the anodizing, with the friend who can help assemble a PCB (if it gets tricky, (I did all my Blacet modules, but those were easy, some other boards aren't as well documented,)) can be a bit of a headache. I also don't like to wait though, so this headache can be worth it depending on how long it takes to wait for something to get made by someone else.

I just inquired about getting a custom, MOTM/ModCan-B format Wiard Boogie Filter. I may end up having to do this one myself as well, as it seems like Grant is a pretty busy fellow.

I also have no problem buying a panel from a panel-maker (like the Stooge guys,) etc. to keep them doing what they do. They have a NoiseRing Panel, but not a Boogie Filter Panel.

The largest problem is quantities. If I want a single panel for something that isn't made, or highly sought-after I have to pay a large setup fee, with a small return. If I wanted 100, and could sell off 99 of them, then I'm all set. Still, (as far as the Boogie Filter is concerned, I'm willing to pay for the Wiard-Blue design on a single panel.) It's a cool enough module to make it worth the $.

I don't get it, I only hear f*cking noise. I would like to see a musical application.

You will rarely get something musical out of the knob twisters around here. The fact that you recognize that noise is just noise means that you have superior musical taste and that you will go far in life. Count your blessings.

That one gets a resounding: PFFT!

It's just the ones that don't know what to do with that noise once they've tuned it, filtered it, gated it, etc. who have the problems. The ones that know how to turn the noise to music are the truly superior ones.

That's where you are dead wrong!!

In fact, these noise-makers who own these modular synths are really just demons in disguise!

I do some demonistic knob turning and spaghetti patching, but I also make music with my modular. (music in the established sense) I've also had 12 years of classical piano training, so where does that put me?

A musical demon I suppose, (and I can live with that.) :D
