is that with the factory sounds or samples?

i have the EX8000 / 800. Ive been meaning to pick up the dss1 rack sooner or later.

These were exactly my thoughts, but alas, the DSM-1 rack lost oscillator sync and resonance. Even the Delay fx are gone i believe. (But it gains more memory and polyphony)

It sounds really nice :)

I almost bought a DSS-1 many years ago, but I decided it was too big for my apartment, at the time. I remember the guy who was selling it, he demonstrated it to me with a diskette containing a piano sound called "Steinway"... it didn't sound like a grand piano at all - more like a glockenspiel :D

These DSS-1 sounds remind me what I was able to do with my Roland W-30 and an Alesis MidiVerb II, utilizing just the internal waveforms. The W-30 is a - hint, hint - true sleeper, I'll never sell it ;)

Thanks flatearth for posting those here. I don't mind at all.

MetroSonus, those are not stock sounds, they are programmed by myself except for maybe one brass and one lead sound (which were tweaked anyway). The acoustic and EP pianos were also sampled by me. The acoustic grand sounds a hell of a lot better than the Korg factory disk. :)

I don't mind the size of this synth, it actually looks very impressive in a rig. I have mine on a 2-tier stand with the JD-800 above it. (The DSS1 is actually larger than the JD!!).

the DSS1 rack sucked. its a totally different instrument from the keyboard version from what I understand - and they are extremely rare.

the keyboard is BIG. like, it makes an EMAXII look petite. but its a mean battleship of an instrument.

also, there arent reallly any factory 'sounds' that I have heard for it. I know there were some floppy disk sample libraries out there, but I cant imagine they would be that good. Besides...its so easy to just draw your own (yes, I said draw).

It is one of the most unique s+s architectures ever. and with analog filters!

Yes, this is why I considered it sort of an "analog M1". In fact most of the M1 ROM is made up of samples that were first made for the DSS-1 and DSM-1 floppy libraries. The DSS-1 is the direct precursor to the world's biggest selling synth!
