Members Aanalogaddict
The Pianoteq website states that the 10.3 Mac version is not yet ready... I'm on 10.4, so I guess I''ll have to wait a litttle longer. Really interesting stuff!
Members pogo97
I think they mean specifically 10.3. I'm on 10.4 and having no trouble (but I've been busy and not messed very deeply).
Members The Pro
There is a concert classical pianist over on the Piano World forums by the name of Hugh Song who's very much into the new Pianotec softsynth. In fact, his rendition of a Chopin waltz is the default demo for PT2 I understand. He's got a great blog that's full of useful info if you want to read more. Members C#minor
@Doug: What do u mean by "It'll be here tomorrow"? Do they sell it in a boxed version now? What are the improvements from last version?

What are the improvements from last version? http://www.pianoteq.com/ has all the info. If you play the version 2 demos side by side with the version 1, especially of the "improv", you can hear the difference immediately.
Members C#minor
Well, can you, or any one, share these immediate differences? The old version in my opinion did not sound as realistic. I like the tweakability of Pianoteq, but the sound of version 1, although impressive for a physical model, still came out short with the big library pianos. Ok, I did it for you: http://messe.harmony-central.com/Musikmesse07/Content/Modartt/PR/Pianoteq-2.html The main deal with version 2 is the new soundboard model. Like I said, with the demos the difference is immediately audible.
Members C#minor
Also, the web site doesn't say if it's a boxed or a download software. My guess it's doenloadable, but here is where I get confused with what Doug mentioned earlier.

Members C#minor
Double sheeeeesh, I read about all this like 10 days ago, that's not what I'm asking about.I am asking about your impressions. When you play version 2, what do you hear different/improved from version 1. What do I gain by knowing they added a new soundboard model, big deal. How will it improve the sound, that's what I need to know.

Members Birdienumnum
Anyway, the whole point is that there is finally a good-sounding modeled instrument out there, and the long slow death of sampled instruments can now begin. A sample is just a recorded frozen slice in time, like a film frame, which is then reanimated; it's just a walking corpse. Whereas a modeled instrument is alive, alive, alive! Generated sound in real time, like any acoustic instrument. To quote Sound On Sound: "I compared Pianoteq to one of the best of the recent crop of sampled grands, and the difference was pretty dramatic. Both pianos sounded fine on simple pop/rock styles, handling big stately chords, slow melodies, octave bass lines and fast repeated chords with aplomb. But when it came to expressive improvised music, PianoTeq was much more playable
Members mate_stubb
How do you play the version 2 demos side by side with version 1? When I go to the demos page, there is only one set - what version are those?

When I go to the demos page, there is only one set - what version are those? The regular demos page is version one. I remember clicking on their "news" page with version 2 info, and there was a link there to some new version 2 demos. I would play the improv one there and quickly switch back to the version 1 page. Members C#minor
@Birdie: What do you think of TruePianos (www.truepianos.com)? The other, allegedly, physical modelling hybrid piano softy. I iked both for different reasons, and was more inclined towards TruePianos when I compared it to Pianoteq 1. Now it's back to the drawing board. @Analogaddict: Thanks. That's what I thought.
