Inexpensive hardware modules

OK - so yamaha came out with the MM6 (motif/ES sounds) for about 599 usd.

korg's got the micro-x for about 650 (triton sounds) , and the R3 will be about that much too.

Anyone else think they should drop the keyboard and any extra crap and put out some modules for a couple hundred less?

I don't mean dropping the keyboard versions, but instead, adding some module versions tothe lineup.

I've paid some big money for modules in the past and it would be nice to see them make a comeback at a much lower price.

I love modules, they seem to be a thing of the past.

It has SOME motif sounds. Not a whole lot. I dont think it has a motif engine under the hood, it has a few of the greatest hits.

The MicroX puzzles me, I would much prefer it if they lopped off the keys and made it a rack. 2 octaves really isnt going to help me, 61 keys barely does it. Korg doesnt have a current module available, the microX is it. The Fantom rack is a lil steep at $1400.

I always wanted a rack or tabletop version of the Ion. Instead we got a mini keyboard version. I have 9 rack/table top modules but with the advancement of computers and VSTi's I hardly use them anymore.

Novation KSR, Virus Classic, Nord Modular Rack, DSI Evolver, Roland XV-5080, Korg Wavestation SR, Emu Virtuoso, XL-7, Ultra Proteus.

you must be rich

Why not sell them ? Hard to let go ?

Nope. Not rich. Blow all my money on GAS.

It is hard to let them go for a fraction of the price. I live in a small town and there is not a market here for used synth modules. I've ebayed a few things, and bought a few on ebay. But for me it is a joy to sit down with a synth and headphones just to see what sounds I can get out of it.

I am often tempted by cheap eBay modules particularly Akai and Emu samplers. I love my XV-3080 so I don't plan on buying any newly released modules. At most I'd get an SRX card. I like layering the XV and Triton, with the category search function on each you can find great big sounds quickly that are great for solo jamming.

I'm a module freak as well. I'm a little surprised that Yamaha has not developed a rack version of the S90-ES, sort of like what Kurzweil has done with the PC-2/PC-2r. While a rack version of the S90-ES probably would not meet the "inexpensive" criteria, I would strongly consider getting one, especially if it contained that gorgeous "Natural S" piano.
