Members polar69
Hi guys, time to de-lurk myself, this forum is a goldmine even for a non hardware vst toting brit such as myself. Anyway I have a question Can anyone hazard a guess how Gary Numan got the warbling sound at the start of "cars" I know his kbd player used a mini moog and have been told to slow my oscillators down but if I turn them down all I get is the clicking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cdgTWitj_o I'm using the arturia mini moog vst, not a patch on the real thing I imagine
Members Diametro
Welcome ... sounds like the modulation is being applied to some kind of simple arpeggiated sequence ... Sorry, that's not a lot of help ...
Members Nightsynth
The 'warbling' sound is a phaser effect. Probably something like the MXR Phase 90 http://guitargeek.com/gearview/32/
Members Nightsynth
I could be wrong, but I recall him using a Memory Moog...
Members Tusks
I know his kbd player used a mini moog and have been told to slow my oscillators down but if I turn them down all I get is the clicking I think he's modulating the filter with the low frequency oscillator (LFO). Not quite the same as slowing your oscillators (except in the minimoog where they didn't have lfo's so you would use one of your standard oscillators to do it. You would take that oscillator out of the audio path of course). What synth are you using. Find the LFO. Modulate filter cutoff with it. Adjust the speed to taste. That's the basic sound. Members ElectricPuppy
Welcome, Polar. I agree with Tusks, it sounds to me like filter cutoff modulation with an LFO.
