What was your first synth?

I did a search, but couldn't find a thread on this topic (however, I'm sure it's been done before).

What was the first synth you ever had?

For me, my first was the Yamaha V50. At the time I thought it was great. For a high school freshman in 1989, it was awesome! I wouldn't touch it with a 12 foot pole now! :)

In high school (early to mid-70's) I played in a band with my brother and a couple of other guys. The leader was the guitarist, who was a few years older than us, and he had a Mini Korg 700, that I thought was just the coolest thing. I didn't own it, but for several years I played it non-stop.

I've never actually seen a Mini Korg since the last time I saw Gary's, which must've been around 1975. But just this week I bought a 700s on eBay, although it hasn't arrived yet:

I can't wait to get it!

The first real synth I abused was my school's EMS AKS in spring 1980.

I bought myself my first own synth a year later: Moog Prodigy

it is still part of my collection and working fine.

Depends on what you call a synth. In high school, it was a Vox Jaguar, then a Rhodes silvertop. For real synths, in 1982, I got an Alpha Syntauri - a kind of software synth/controller that worked with an Apple II.

First one I ever played? An ARP 2600 back in 1972- my high school band director conned the school board into buying one.:thu:

The first one I actually owned was much later; a CZ-101:lol:

I bought a Moog Source w/ the original box in the early 90's cheap. Wish I didn't sell it now.

Roland Alpha Juno-1...

I can remember when I first bought it, thinking it was multi-timbral. Connected it to my Yamaha QX5 sequencer and was up all night trying to figure out how to get each sound into different MIDI channels. Arrrggh!!

Hi jnkirk1974!

Welcome to the forum!

My first synth was a Juno 106 I borrowed from my girlfriend (and ended up keeping) back in 1984. Shortly thereafter, I bought my first synth, a Roland JX-8P.

Thanks.

First synth that I ever played: EML ElectroComp 200

First synth that I recorded on a one-off home project: Yamaha CS80  (back in 1979)

First synth that I borrowed for an extended time: Poly Moog

First synth that I owned: Roland HS60

First workstation: Yamaha V50 (pretty good at the time, not so hot now!) ;)

Cheers!

First synth was a Sequential Circuits Six-Trak....all I could afford at the time. Only had one oscillator per voice, but you could stack all 6 together for a nasty fat sound. Very basic 6-track sequencer on board--fun for a quick sonic "note pad."

One major gripe though--it had no headphone jack. (What were they thinking?)

I still have it today, safely tucked away in its case.
