Members King Julian
HiI bought a Micron down here in Australia on ebay but it has the american power supply. It has an AC power adapter - never seen one of those before - with an output of 9V 1.5A. I can get a local replacement with an output of 9.6V and 2.2A. Will this damage the Micron? Should I instead get a step down transformer to step down from 240v here to 110V? [Not my preferred option as a) it would be more bulky/heavy and its for gigging mainly and b) I've already ordered the 9.6V plugpack (only $8)] JohnPS the Alesis distributor in Australia refuses to supply me with an Australian adapter - claims it would not be covered under warranty and would be illegal under some FCC agreement or something, because the synth came from US. I can understand he wants to protect his business but there are no Microns available in Australia as far as I can tell (orders date back months) and anyway Microns cost about double here what you can get them for in the US. Despite the $A doing very well against the greenback recently there has been no reduction in price.

I'd be stunned if .6V would hurt it. the Alesis distributor in Australia refuses to supply me with an Australian adapter - claims it would not be covered under warranty and would be illegal under some FCC agreement or something, because the synth came from US. Tell him to put that explanation in his billy and (smoke, boil, puree, poach) it. Or whatever those billy things do. I would think Alesis, and most any other electronics company, sells replacement power supplies. That's all you need to tell anyone. It is somewhat possible that there is a different filter capacitor in the Micron to deal with the US 60Hz AC, as opposed to your 50Hz AC, but no damage will occur. I doubt there is any difference in the filter cap.
Members King Julian
thanks Prog. Is there any issue with the required 1.5A vs the 2.2A supplied? Could this fry components?
Members Prog
No. Current is just what the supply is capable of delivering. The device will only draw what it needs.
