Members bruto
I once again have a Yamaha CS-10. I sold mine about a year ago missed it from day one. I saw one recently for $170 with case and snagged it. Funny thing is that just the day before I bought the Technics SY-1010 monophonic for $20. I bought a Novation BassStation about 6 months ago for $85. So now I have 3 monophonic synths.
Members rugge78
very lucky for the bucks you spent, very few...Here in Italy we don't have the same fortune!
Members bruto
(BTW, sorry about the lousy photos. I'll take some better ones with sunlight in a few days.) Cant say exactly what it is, but this CS-10 sounds a little different than my old one - a little wider. It's cool to compare the three: Yamaha CS-10 Fast filter, low clear bass, 2 ADSR envelopes, strong clear output, works great with guitar effects, VCF and VCA can be used as effect via input jack on back, built like a tank. Novation BassStation 2 VCOs, Fat, wild filter, Midi! Technics SY-1010 Looks SH-101ish, however, that's where it ends. Sounds like a circuit bent Casio with a drifting oscillator. Fun, but hardly professional. Best Bass: Yamaha CS-10, Fattest: Novation BassStation Most likely to appear on eBay soon: Technics SY-1010

Members bruto
"Mono-a-mono" means "one on one." I should have included the hyphens, but whatever. I used it as a double entendre on more than one monophonic synth.
Members Umbra
I'd love to hear some sound samples of each. I've been considering a CS-30 for just about forever, just never pulled the trigger as they are hard to find for a reasonable price.

Members bruto
I downloaded the service manual a couple of years ago when I had my other one. I opened up the synth today and took a look inside. I saw all the calibration terminals on the VCO board - no wonder it took you 2 days! BTW, I think I'll take a shower with it like you did with your CS-15 Don. Should I unplug it first? Seriously, I do plan to disassemble and clean it. The volume pot is scratchy anyway. And I'll put new caps on the power board. I'll see if I can find a scope and do the calibration too. I can't do the 24db filter in series mod like you did though - it only has one filter. Also, I'll get a demo up in a day or so.

Yeah it would be nice to have 4 monophonic synths.. it would do so much more to your music.. Make it sound all professional and stuff.
Members Don Solaris
Unfortunately I'm more interested in traditional lead type duties than misc. noises.CS-30 for leads is like a tractor for highways. Want leads -> get a MiniMoog. Nothing beats it. Can't afford it? No problem, get a Moog Source and you are done. In short: if you want leads, get a device that was made for it - and be ready to pay for it - their names are known to the masses for the last few decades - nothing has changed in the meantime. Offtopic: Not every monophonic synth should necessary be good for leads - just because it is monophonic. Take Korg MS-20, or Yamaha CS-30 or Roland SH-7. They have their duties and their own territory - let's try not to push them to where they don't belong to.

Take Korg MS-20, or Yamaha CS-30 or Roland SH-7. They have their duties and their own territory - let's try not to push them to where they don't belong to. I've heard perfectly good leads out of an MS20 (Ladyfinger). get a device that was made for it - and be ready to pay for it - their names are known to the masses for the last few decades - nothing has changed in the meantime. Ah, but if everyone had that attitude there would be whole genre's of music that wouldn't exist and everyone would have burned their moogs and 303's which were nearly worthless in the 80's. Members bruto
whoe whoe whoe there! Technics SY-1010 mono synth ???? Never seen or heard of that one before It's an analog monophonic synth sold for one year only, 1979, and mostly in Japan. It was designed as an entry level synth, and it's pretty close to that. No wave selector, just a sort of sawtooth, and no band pass filters. It does have an LFO. Sound is buzzy and a little toyish, but you can get one or two decent sounds out of it. The main circuit board is discrete - not PSB, but it does have the "N" mark on it like Yamaha electonics. So it was either sourced to Yamaha, or a common third party made both. Engineering wise, it doesn't resemble Yamaha at all - closer to Kawai/Teisco.
