My Yamaha SY85/TG500 demo

I wanted it to be a 80s disco song (hence the old drums and boring beginning), but it didn't quite work out... :freak: All the sounds come from TG, with little processing (unlike my JD demo).

I always regarded this synth very highly, but I have to say it's no match for JD in terms of sound quality, although it's worlds better than anything else released before it in terms of usability, and as far as JD vs TG competition is concerned, I like that TG has lots of usable presets and much larger sound palette in general. Also, the drums are punchy and of nice variety, although dated (but nothing some FX processing can't cure). Besides, if I ever decide to make a true disco music, I will use these drums, they're awesome for 80s music. But as for programming... fogedabodit. I tried to edit a ASDR envelope on one sound and failed to even find a menu where I could do it (too lazy to dig in the manual). That's why this song is done entirely with presets, and doesn't sound as good as I wanted it to.

yeah, thanks... the song is kind of lame, and although TG sounds fine, i think some kind of analog would be necessary for proper disco...

i was thinking about making a similar Wavestation demo, but that thing has no usable sounds except for several pads... :(

Nice tune with the Yamaha, though. :thu:

What you can achieve with audio recording and proper mixing of a single synth is amazing to me (who never got beyond multi-timbral MIDI sequencing).

Thanks guys, my craving for attention has been satisfied. ;)

Whoa! That's some very good music.
:thu:

When did you got the TG?

I got it about a week ago, locally for 80$. The guy also had TG77, but I wasn't sure if I wanted it, and by the time I finally decided to get it, it was gone. Oh well...

Hey Lewey! I listened to your song and really like it. I also have a TG-500 and like many of the preset patches. I like the thick pads and choir like patches the best.

That is cool that you did multi with one module. I have not gotten around to doing this yet. What did you use to record it? I like your use of the strat like guitar voicing you have in the song.

Have you thought about adding any solos to your song?

Cool song.

edit: Question, What do you think of the server your song is on? Any good?

What did you use to record it?

Cubase SX.

No, but you're welcome to add whatever you want. :D

Well, lately I was reflecting on this same question, and after few hours of intense thinking I came to the conclusion that I put my mp3 there and the server seems to allow other people spontaneously download it.

Hey Lewey. I have been messing around with some solo melodies with your song. I really like it. It sounds like a mix of Tangerine Dream, Pink Floyd of the late 1980's.

How many tracks did you use? What presets did you use? What tempo did you use?

I'm thinking about maybe adding a few solo melodies kind of like Pink Floyd.

I used about 20-25 tracks... Tempo is 90.

Lewey, I have started to work on our song!

I'm just kidding. I really have started working on your song. I think I will add to it in a good way. I'm gonna add some background bass in most of the song. I'm also gonna add a small solo melody towards the end of the song.

I will be using my new Zero-G Nostalgia for the first time in your song. I picked out a Moog Taurus Pedal sample with the cutoff Freq turned down.

I believe your melody lines work throughout the song and carry the listener.

I will let you know when I'm done.

You show your true self by this statement.

Please don't get offended, I was afraid you'd get touchy and emo and stuff. :) It was fun to listen to, but the bass is boomy and loud and swaps everything else and is just out of place. I didn't put any bass in the song, cause drums are punchy enough, and bass usually takes up a lot of mix clarity. Most disco songs didn't use that kind of bass you used. They usually used non-bass heavy basses.

And moog lead is plain gay. Just a word of advice - don't ever put crazy leads in your songs no matter how much they show your talent as a player. They're gay and scream "Look at me!!! I'm amateur!".

I hope you didn't put too much effort and soul into your work, cause if yes, I feel bad for being so blunt. Peace? :)
