I pulled the trigger...V-Synth GT

I had a play with one for a while yesterday - conclusion - nothing about it that made me think for a moment about parting with my V-Synth for it.

+1. I see no reason to upgrade to a GT from my v-synth and varios (for the cards), especially considering you can get the pair for over 1k less than a GT.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Tony: but you're not upgrading, right? The GT will be your first V-synth?

Have fun with it, and be sure to give us your opinions about it.

Correct. I really wanted the original V when it came out, but couldnt afford it at the time. I almost got an XT when it showed up, but again...got distracted by other things.

I considerd getting an original V, but after a lot of comparing between the manuals (and knowing myself and how I am with synths) I decided to go for the new shiny one instead of the older unit. The concept seems to be more integrated, and there were a few things I found in the details of the GT that arent on the original. Some features, like the Multi-Step modulator are things Loved on my Fantom but see better implementations of here. the per-tone Fx also should come in handy. I also like the fact that I dont have to mess with PC cards for storage - I can just pop a 2gb USB stick in the back for transfering files to the PC. the list goes on.

Anyway, it should come in sometime this week and Ill give my opinion after Ive had a few days to muck about with it.

The problem I had was that in edit mode the loops were perfect but when actually used in a patch the glitches were really evident... I guess its a problem with the realtime variphrase processing.. I notice that Roland never offered a fix for this... although they did suggest workarounds...

I had one, sent it back, it was buggy and was not worth the money. Roland has really lost it lately and is making over-priced P-O-S equipment. I'll stick w Yamaha and Korg. Bet this thing will be a LOT cheaper after the Holidays.

Sorry, didnt mean to ruin it for you, for some reason mine was buggy and even after a factory re-set a lot of the presets were corrupted. Saw one later in a store that was OK and had some good sounds but i still think Roland should've priced it about $1K lower.:thu:
