All you can do is bid as late on as you feel right the highest amount you're willing to pay - any earlier can drive prices up too soon, and if you get beaten then - walk away happy as you haven't overpaid and got caught up in a bidding frenzy.

How much did it go for - they normally go on SOS for

It is an auction, last minute bidding is unfortunately part of the game.I too have been a victim of "Ebay sniping"..Now,If there is something I really want, I bid in the last 30 sec's.. high enough to outbid any bot,or at least try and defeat any repeat bids by sheer lack of time..it's just how it's done now.I find last minute bidding may actually keep the price down instead of driving the price high early on.

Bidding late is dumb, it doesn't make any difference. Just bid what your willing to pay and leave it at that.

Not an E-Bay fan either but it's necessary when you get no assured responses from the musician web sites. Last resort for me. I understand that it's a service but IMHO they take too much money.

Believe it or not, I have never won an eBay auction, even when I used bidding software myself. I just gave up, what a waste of time and energy. BIN only for me, baby.

I think it would more fair to buyers if the auction site used sealed bids. That is, you don't know how much others are bidding for the item. The seller can see, of course, but the bidders can't. When the auction ends, the person with the highest bid wins.

That way, there's no psychological run-up at the end of the auction, and absolutely no incentive to snipe.

Sure it makes a difference.

If you bid early, some moron who just HAS to have that item comes along and outbids you. Bid the same $$ in the last 3 seconds, and that same guy does not have a chnace to respond.

I've won 2 auctions that way, and in the process spent considerably less than I was willing to pay for the items. Had I bid early, it's almost guaranteed someone would have outbid me - or at least driven my bids higher toward my limit.

Do you sell lots of stuff on eBay?
