Members quicksilverXP
Looking for a help on a certain vocoder/talkbox sound. The particular sound I'm trying to find is a classic "vocoder" sound found in a number of old school RnB sonds. But the exact one I'm trying to find is the one from Jodeci's "Freakin You." Can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RdGIMkjGFQ The sound starts at around 2:18. I'm not sure if it's a talkbox or a vocoder. It sounds like multiple talkbox voices. Is this a chorus effect, a harmonizer, or a specific kind of vocoder? Thanks for your guys' help.
Members OPEN OCEAN
hi you can get the typical "robot" vocoder sounds out of many keyboards nowdays like the microkorg, micron, jp 8080 etc also there are many vintage vocoders which are the best of course like the roland vp330...alteratively you can use somekind of software programs to do this like N.I. vocator....good luck... Members mate_stubb
All I hear are regular old background vocals - no vocoding or talkbox at all. ???? Edit: I hear talkbox at about 3:30.
Members ElectricPuppy
Sounds to me like a vocoder over pad chords, not "multiples".

Members quicksilverXP
Hmmnnn.. .k guys thanks for the help. I'm so dumb I didn't even try chords. Guess I'll have to mess around with my MicroKorg and talkbox and see which one sounds best. It sounds very "Roger Troutman" but with multiple notes. Members LWG
It sounds like multiple talkbox voices. Is this a chorus effect, a harmonizer, or a specific kind of vocoder? Hello, First mind is usually on point. It sounds like you have unaffected synth chords in the middle, then either keyboard-thru-talkbox or multi-tracked guitar-thru-talkbox. The talkbox tracks sound like they're mixed very low, or highpass filtered/eq'd so you get just the upper edge of the sound. This makes sense, as its often done to keep usually midrange/upper-midrange sounds clear of the main vocalist's space. Regards, Lawrence
Members ChromaLord
Start with these basic tips: Try to use a real analog source, saw tooths work the best, over enunciate your words and speak in a lower register.
