Hi,

I've always had problems with the x-station. I bought it last year and I always had to reinstall drivers and restart my laptop (dell inspiron 6400)everytime i wanted to do anything, and even then, i'd get digital white noise if i changed audio software(say, between reason and live). these problems led me to forget about computer music altogether until today when i saw updates for x-station drivers and os. i have installed the latest drivers and os but now nothing at all works.

when downloading the software, it gives the drivers it is downloading (audio, wdm audio and midi, and something else). It says that I should tick/untick what i want here, but all options were greyed out. also the wdm audio/midi bit had no size next to it whereas the other two things had a size of some sort listed. anyway, i download it and it says it is fine.

when i go to sound properties in windows xp, it does not list anything as an option for sound or midi. when i go to the driver properties it says it is working fine. when i go to an audio software (like reason), it sees the novation usb asio driver but does not see any midi driver at all. even though the novation usb asio driver is there in the audio, i can not hear any audio through the x-station, except for the inbuilt synth which works fine.

i can tell you that i am at my wits end with this thing. please help! i'm very close to throwing it in the bin!

many thanks

:freak:

Itr's hard to diagnose the problem without being there but Novation support is very good and you should give them a shout and see if they can help.

BTW, one problem I can see as a possibility: certain Intel chipsets do not work with USB audio drivers hence the white noise you are referring to. It's an Intel fault... my studio computer is an Intel that doesn't work with my X-Station via USB (Novation support helped me figure this out). When I upgraded my laptop I went with an AMD processor and it works with my X-Station and Reason problem-free.

I also had a lot of problems getting the Windows USB drivers to work. The Yahoo group has some good information about fixing the problem... I think the new drivers caused a lot of problems, really.

remember to only use one USB port on your laptop for the X-station. Windows installs drivers for specific ports, and the X-station gets really upset if you end up with different driver sets on different ports. I don't know how the heck that's actually possible, but it seems to have happened to me before. o_O
