Members ElectricPuppy
It's that time of year again, when the Fire Fairy comes to Southern California and throws around some flames to chase some from their homes, and make everyone else nervous. I'm one of the nervous ones; There's a fire in the Santiago Canyon just north of me that's gone from nothing to hundereds of acres within the last 2 hours, and the winds are blowing it my way, HARD. There's been no talk of evacuations yet, but my wife and I are starting to round up important papers and such, just in case. Sometimes I friggin hate living in Southern California. Members sizzlemeister
Move to New York! Same crappy style of government, same idiot populace, same high taxes, but you get snow instead of earth-quakes and fires!
Members mildbill
Take care man. The fires have been in the news a lot lately - scary stuff. Hope you make it through OK. If you get the signal to go - protect life first and take care of your {censored} later. They're skiing in Colorado.

Members ElectricPuppy
We're as ready as we're gonna be, I guess. No evacuations called, so far. Sigh. I guess I'll poke at my gear for now, no sleep tonight.

Members sizzlemeister
I just heard on the news that the fires continue to move towards residential areas. We'll say a little prayer for you here.
Members ElectricPuppy
Thanks guys, I think the positive vibes worked. We seem to bein the clear here for the most part (Irvine, Orange County), but we're keeping stuff ready just in case. We've been watching the fires everywhere else, like Malibu, and occassionally they'll show a shot of someone's house going up in smoke. It just makes me sick. A few of the fires were sparked by downed power lines, but our local one here was caused by arson.
Members idiotboy
Good luck Pup. 60 Minutes did a piece on western-state fires last night. They said the worst fires in US recorded history have all been in the last 10 years, And they said the blame, in part, is the fact that they were so rigourous about fire-fighting and prevention in the last century, that the forests ended up with a surplus of "fuel" (burnable brush, etc). They also discussed climate change, but stopped short of elaborating on it.
Members The Audacity Works
...but our local one here was caused by arson. Somebody's got some bad voodoo coming... The big fires north of Tucson a few years back were caused by some volunteer fire fighter who felt he wasn't getting enough work. And some kids set fire to the backside of the Hollywood sign last year
Members ElectricPuppy
One of my long-time coworkers lives in San Diego, and is one of the 250,000 evacuated. When I last saw his house, he could see the flames coming up the hillside, and there's a good chance that he might lose it. I feel for him right now. I thought I was gonna die from smoke inhalation last night, and we had the house buttoned up as tight as we could. IB: I hope all goes well for your family. Members Birdienumnum
We're all pretty nervous over here in the Agoura/West Hills area (it's a short hop over to Malibu). But some of my elderly friends and relatives in Malibu and San Diego have already had to pack up and leave. We're ok but it's damn nervewracking. Half a million people have fled already. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Bush: his coming here? "Very premature". I remember what Pres. Vicente Fox said recently, Bush was scared to ride his horse when he visited Mexico. Members Birdienumnum
This just in from AP: "The White House backtracked on an earlier statement made Tuesday that President Bush would not visit fire-ravaged southern California." Ha! The Decider is coming here after all. * * * * It's 2:30 in the afternoon and it looks like orange sunset outside.

Members mrcpro
A Bush appearance isn't going to help you guys. Members mrcpro
Nice. In the middle of a tragedy you have to throw in your hate-mongering political {censored}. If I have offended anyone in the LA-San Diego area my apologies. I live in a wildfire-prone area myself and had to evacuate more than once. I have been fortunate enough not to lose any structures. My prayers are that you guys are as fortunate.
