Members adamgram
I'm just starting to learn how to use midi. I have a midi keyboard run into my computer and have Cakewalk Home Studio and Reason. I've figured out how to record something in Cakewalk and change the instrument to anything in the 'patch' list, but I can't figure out how to get more patches in the list. There are no drums. I'd settle for the drum sounds on the keyboard but would prefer to use the Reason drum sounds. Any suggestions on how to figure out how to get more patches in Cakewalk Home Studio? Members bruto
First off - are you using a laptop or regular PC?If PC, do you have a soundcard installed or just the onboard sound that came with it? Also, on general midi, drums should appear on channel 10.
Members adamgram
I'm using a desktop PC. It's a Dell, and I got it with the upgraded sound card. I'm not sure of what the details are. Channel 10 does give me drum sounds, thanks Bruto! They acually sound worse than the sounds that came with the keyboard, though, which I found a little surprising and disconcerning. Are the sounds I'm using stored on the sound card itself? My midi out is set to 'SB X-Fi Synth A[9C00]' which I assume is my Sound Blaster sound card. The other options are 'SB X-Fi Synth B' and 'Microsoft MIDI Mapper'. When I use any channel except 'none', the Synth A dissapears and becomes 'Sound Font Device'. Anyone know what's going on with my setup here? Everything works fine, it's mostly curiosity at this point. It would be cool to use the Reason sounds with the Cakewalk interface, too, if anyone can help me out with that.
