Sysex dumps are recorded the same way any midi information is recorded. Just connect up to your computer via your midi interface, get your synth ready to bulk dump, hit record, hit bulk dump.

Here are the directions for saving the sysex information from the S03 Manual. Hope this helps

1 In the Multi mode, select the S03 Multi you want

to transmit.

2 Press [JOB] to enter the Multi Job mode.

Thanks for the elaborate reaction.

MIDI N00b question: would it also be possible to send the sysex data directly from the MIDI OUT of the one synth to the MIDI IN of the other? So, without the intermediate step of recording the MIDI sysex data into a sequencer and the later play-back into the other synth?

This way, I wouldn't have to haul my S08 to my computer... I just could bring my S03 to my S08, connect them, and transfer the patches.

You know what: I tried the abovementioned route (direct bulk dump from S08 to S03). The S03 showed the message "Bulk dump Rx" which was hopeful, but the S08 user voices didn't show up in the S03.

I mailed to Yamaha Europe (Benelux) and this was the response (translated): "Unfortunately, no voices can be exchanged between the S03 and the S08. The bulk dumps are not compatible."

So, this is where it ends: I'll have to program my favorite S08 sounds manually into my S03.
