Members cornstone
hey guys, I just got an ION. It should be here late next week. I cant wait to hear it. Are there useable EP and organ sounds? Does it have a monophonic mode? What can I expect from just playing a pro-one for about 3 weeks to going to the ion? Its seems that the people on youtube have no clue how to use the ion (or the pro-1 for that matter). Can someone post a patch for the EP's. Suggestions and helpful hints would be appreciated. thanks
Members TempusRob
I was just watching some ION videos today ... they seemed pretty interesting. I'm actually looking at an ION myself. has some pretty trippy stuff, though it's almost all noise. And this guy whips up a decent organ sound. And for good measure. Members Megakazbek
hey guys,Are there useable EP and organ sounds? thanks Why would anyone expect EP and organ sounds from a virtual analog synth? Certainly you may try and dial in something that would sound kind of EP-ish or organ-ish, but they will sound very different from real EPs and organs, and these sounds are definitely not what Ion is for. For that you may want to look at the Nord Lead. It has mono and poly mode. Unless you are a quick study 3 weeks of playing is not much time. The Ion will have you sitting in front of it for hours: 8 polyphony, 4 timbrality, 3 oscillators, 2 filters, 1 attenuator, and 2 LFOs. It emulates the Moog, Prophet, ARP, and Oberheim (can't complain).
Members TempusRob
Since this Ion thread is already here, I'll pose some questions since I'm pretty sure I want to buy one myself. I've been using my S03 a little bit as of late ... a simple sine+square lead sound, some really warm pads, and some electric guitar solo stuff (which apparently crowds love ... who'd have thought?). But I want to replace the S03 with a synth. Now, obviously the Ion won't do E. Guitar sounds, but can it pull off something gritty/dirty in the vein of an electric guitar? Members cornstone
Genius and keyboardist should be synonyms . The pro1 is sweet but not practical for my style in live situations. I run bass lines, voicings and sing at the same time so tweeking the p1 would stop the show. I 'm hoping to set up maybe five patches that can be quickly accessed. I am not too worried about the EP and organ sounds as i have a Rhodes, Hammond and an RD 700 but those guys are heavy and i thought it would be cool to have a really light board for those times when i didn't need the full setup. Can someone post a homemade sound bit of the ion. thanks guys.

A high-end Yamaha, or better yet, a Roland could pull it off.
Members mildbill
.... Now, obviously the Ion won't do E. Guitar sounds, but can it pull off something gritty/dirty in the vein of an electric guitar? Start with one square wave with a quick attack and decay to a medium high sustain on the amp env. and work from there, but remember that the Ion is a synthesizer. Members TempusRob
but remember that the Ion is a synthesizer. Of course. Was just curious if I could make it growl.

Members Teoman
ionjupepad indeed sounds JP8. Is that a preset Yoozer ?
Members Yoozer
Yeah, but the original preset uses (for a Jupiter) the Moog filter
Members Teoman
So, what we hear is a Moog sweep. Still very good though. Almost the same sweep in Kaja Gogoo's ''Too Shy'' JP-8 intro.
Members Yoozer
No, a JP8 sweep, because I changed the filter. It doesn't make it a preset, but it's easily remedied

It doesn't make it a preset, but it's easily remedied Okay, you switched to the JP-8 filter without anything else. It DOES sound JP-8 and much better than Arturia's. A good reason to get a Micron at least, considering the unbelievable 3000 GBP UK prices of the real deal.
Members OPEN OCEAN
dont want to dissapoint you but think that there are numerous other options if you are into eps and pianos than this synth...judging from my time spent with micron though... Members mildbill
Well{censored}. I thought it was a type of oboe. Just reminding someone that a gritty/dirty electric guitar can be had cheaper than an Ion, and is the real thing, instead of a substitute for the real thing. Members cornstone
Now i have a better idea what to expect thanks to Yoozer. nice setups BTW. I was told the Nord lead 2x does a great ep and organ so I thought the Ion could do the same. By no means is that the reason why i want an ion. Coming from a pro1 i know what a modeling snyth is. The ion so far seems too good to be true.
Members droolmaster0
yeah. It isn't true. It isn't that good.
Members Birdienumnum
yeah. It isn't true. It isn't that good. Oh, don't rain on his parade, droolie. Let him love his Ion. I love my humble Micron.
Members Yoozer
Oh, the Ion has some EP sounds, but they're not that spectacular; however, superior to those you'd find in say, a JX3P. Organs on modeling synths are easy; it's the rotary speaker that's harder to do. If you want a synthesizer that does EP and organ, either get a Virus B/C or a Radias. I have the C - it's got passable EP and organ sounds.
Members Don Solaris
ionjupepad indeed sounds JP8 +1 Exactly my thoughts. I didn't know there was such preset. I bought Ion recently and started making new patches without looking at presets.
