Members keybdwizrd
I read a really good review of Ultimate Sound Bank's Plugsound Pro softsynth - basically a "soft rompler" and decided to try it out. I think the review was in Keyboard a month or so ago. I just got the software a couple of days ago, and really haven't had a chance to play with it until this evening. It is loaded with pianos, organs, guitars, drums, and boatloads of other instruments. It also has built-in multi-effects and loops, with the ability to drag-and-drop loops right into your DAW. Anyhows, check this out - nothing profound, just a classic rock kinda vibe with standard instruments. No final tune or mix here, and no effects or EQ outside of Plugsound (although I did run the whole thing through a limiter while bouncing): PlugsoundPro Rock Demo (192 kbps MP3) Crank it up - doesn't sound too bad for software, eh? Members Paolo Di Nicolantonio
It sounds nice! The line between hardware and software is getting more and more blurred these days... But I'm still being stubborn and I stick to the hardware...
Members P321
People will know USB better for the engines they did for Spectrasonics Atmosphere, Trilogy, and the original Stylus. They also do the Mach V stuff for MOTU. In fact, you should be able to load the libraries directly into Mach V (At least you could do that with the earlier Plugsound library versions from a few years back, not sure if the current format still allows for this?) Sound quality wise I think the USB stuff has always been maybe a bit underrated. Maybe not premier league like a Spectrasonics perhaps, but still pretty decent stuff. The one note of caution is their record in providing timely software updates. I think that's actually a big part of the reason why Specstronics dumped them and hired their own coder for Stylus RMX. Members keybdwizrd
By the way, I purchased Plugsound Pro from Sweetwater for $279. I now see that it is available for $99 !?#%!? See this: http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/plugsoundpro.html ...and Sweetwater is now selling it for this price. I have requested a refund from Sweetwater for $180. Plugsound Pro is a BARGAIN at $99. Yes, I have MachFive 2 and the Plugsound library can be loaded right into it. Very cool.

The $99 PlugSoundPro is part of Ultimate Sound Bank's Christmas Specials, ONLY valid through Jan. 10th, 2008:http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/christmasspecialsad.html $279 is the current retailer price, but I see Sweetwater has lowered their price.http://www.audiomidi.com/PlugSound-Pro-P8474.aspx Retailers sometimes get put in a bind when the software developer has a sale, since the retailer's wholesale price was probably based on the original price. P.S. -- PlugSound Pro requires an iLok, which is NOT included in the box, so if you don't have one you need to add one for $40:http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iLok

Members Allerian
Pretty good for software, but the strumming of the guitar leaves me kinda when the ring of the chord is suddenly stopped by the next strum. Great playing man.

Yeah, I just couldn't get that to sound right. There are a bunch of guitar strum samples included, many of different chords. I mapped the different chords to different keys on a keyboard, and then triggered/recorded the strums in DP. It sounds fine if you just play the sample, and let the same chord strum over and over. But switching from sample to sample just doesn't work. Oh, well. I am one of those keyboardists who is really a frustrated guitar player.
