Members stefanlindmark
Kurzweil PC3X. Offers all I need: nice wave ROM, vintage keys, VA synthesis, organ sim, breath, huge ribbon controller, ...
Members Khazul
None - maybe Linndrum 2 eventually. Might have been insterested in the MPC5000 if I hadnt recently(ish) bought a MPC2500. Would be interested in the P08 rack, but not at the kind of prices they will probably go for here.Fantom-G8 if sonically it could replace the fusion and the 3 other rompler sound modules (motif esr, fantom xr and triton r)
Members Megakazbek
New Fantom G has nice workstation capabilities, but its sound engine is still very similar to 8 year old XV-series, and there weren't any significant improvements since, so if you want a _synth_ (e.g., you want it for best sound, and not for big nice screen with cool graphics and nice sequencer with audio recording, etc), I'd second PC3X. Members MarkF786
I agree (partially). The new features in the Fantom G seem more focused on the sequencer than the synth engine. It probably has the best sequencer of any workstation on the market (while the Oasys is the king of synthesis). But since I'm happy with using a DAW for sequencing, I'm more interested in the synth engine of a product. Rather than the PC3X, my vote goes for the Yamaha XS. That's what I'm thinking of buying - though I'll probably wait to try the Fantom G in person just to be sure. Members Tony Scharf
Im thinking about a P08..but really, I want to go modular this year. Ive got everything else covered. Its looking like I *will* need a workstation at some point tho. If the band project gets going I am going to need something. I may go used and get a Fantom X6, Triton Extreme or Motif ES though. I dont really think I *need* one of the newere boards.
Members flat earth
I agree (partially). (while the Oasys is the king of synthesis). I have no argument with that, .....but if only theyd put all those incredible synth engines and models in a 'synth' product at a cheap price. They'd clean up. I dont want to have to buy a workstation to get at that AL-1 / MOD-7 / LAC-1 stuff I hopeing something is brewing in the design vaults at Korg right now

Members josemiguel
Kurzweil PC3x: monster synth and fx engine... far more superior than anything else in the price range. The future expansion will update the ROM if necessary. Plus i want to support Kurzweil in their new era.

Members akliner
What's with all these n00b members with their PC3x fanboyism? Have you played one? Have you played with the VAST engine? OR Are you projecting how you want it to be on the actual product you haven't played? You realize Kurzweil is pretty much been operating under HYPE and not delivery for the past decade, right? Members Re-Member
Fantom G looks nice, but I'd probably end up wasting an entire year just learning how to use it and neglecting everything else I have. I probably never see the light of day if I got that thing. I just barely got myself an R3 and still haven't really touched it since I'm so distracted with sampling and sound design on my MC-808. The more advance the equipment is I get, the more of a hermit I become trying to work on sounds, so no more equipment changes for me this year. Just need to focus on programming songs for a change and actually performing.
Members Diametro
I NEED A DIGITAL MIXER / AUDIO INTERFACE like NOW ... and I SIMPLY CANNOT DECIDE ... ARRGGGH! Synths are so much easier, IMO ... . . . . . Synth I want: Of course, Fan-G, which I think could possibly be the best/easiest/fastest workstation to use ever ... naturally, Fantom owners will feel right at home ... but it seems Roland did a lot of work improving the UI/sequencer of the Fantom, which was already tops but not quite up to the basic level of a computer DAW in all areas ... Members eric
I was at NAMM and spent a long time in every keyboard booth (I have posted a lot more on the other forum and also uploaded a bunch of photos I took on behalf of Keyboard Magazine). I did not find one single "must buy ASAP" item, though I have a few things on the radar. The one synth that impressed me a lot, but is not new, was the Roland V-Synth GT. I had never seen or played one, so I checked out a good demo of it and also played it. That thing is really deep and its build quality/feel is superb. I also have some Moog GAS too - I kept coming back to the Moog both over and over...they had a lot of folks from Moog hanging out and they were super nice and the booth just had a friendly and fun vibe. I really liked that on the :20 of each hour, there was a different concert or demo. I saw The Volt Per Octaves 2 or 3x and talked to them...Moogs are just cool and fun. Not sure if I would spring for the Minimoog OS, Little Phatty or just keep saving for a Voyager. The PC3x was just ok. Seems like it is not near ready for prime time and it was not so much different in sounds and feel than the PC88. It was hard to get a good demo on it based on the fact that they only had one there and a lot of people waiting to play it. The Roland Fantom G is cool, but I have a rompler and a workstation already...there is not so much new stuff there that I need to jump on that bandwagon. The P'08 and P'08 Rack are VERY cool...I would like to pick one of those up at some point, but again, not a burning urge. The one thing that really made me go hmmm at NAMM was that Vox/Korg Continental prototype. Cool vintage vibe with the chrome Z-stand. That would cut a classic pose on stage. Members MuzikB
Something Moog by June 29. Depending on loot it will be a Littly Phatty Stage, Voyager OS w/ Midi-CV converter, or a Mahogany Fire Voyager. Then I'm done with hardware unless Roland releases the next MC and get it right. Replacing my K-Kontrol with Akai's MPK49 or Novation Remote Zero as the K-Kontrol never works properly with Logic 8 and I may be selling my MV-8800. Enjoying Logic 8 too much and since the custom Voyager is way over budget, something will have to go.
Members P321
Only thing I'd be likely to buy is Omnisphere (provided the street price is about $100 less than RRP) Given how late it'll actually be released they might as well have saved it for NAMM 2009 though. Just interest wise, Solaris looks like it could shape up to be very nice, and maybe Linndrum II. But it's looking like it'll be the best part of a year before we see either of those (properly finished) too! It's getting a bit silly with the amount of stuff being previewed that won't show up for ages, but I guess it's also a sign that Summer NAMM is no longer viewed as worthwhile for many of them..
