I am x-posting this from the recoring forum, and for that I appologize. I wanted to get maximum coverage however and I know a lot of you here might be able to help:

I have a recording session coming up in my home studio. I currently run a mixerless configuration using an emu 1820m which gives me 16 inputs. I generally dont ever need that many for my own projects, but for this session we will need to record approximately 24 tracks real time as audio. Because the EMU card cant provide that (and because 24 inputs would be enough that I wouldnt need a patch bay for my synths) I was looking at a Presonus FireStudio + a pair of AI3s or some other analog to adat converter. Before I do that, I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any experience or can offer suggestions in the same/similar price bracket.

I did a lot of research on this, and it looks like the best option. If anyone cares to help, I am looking for answers to the following questions:

1. If my PC is fast enough, can I really get 24 channels of audio into the PC and actually record that many without insane amounts of latency?

2. How stable are stacked units - If I find I need 32 channels, can I add another FireStudio and expect good results?

3. How is the mixer software? Because this will be my only mixer, it would be really nice if I could connect my SAC2.2 control surface to it, or any control surface for that matter.

Thats about it. Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.
