Members Tony Scharf
I seem to remember asking this a while back...and I seem to remember getting an answer...but neither forum search nor google search will help me find it again. Is there a way to adjust the viewing angle on the Yamaha TG-33? I just moved mine to a different location and now its impossible to read. thanks in advance - and this time I promise to have the answer tattooed onto my left arm. Members playstation
Erm...could I ask you a question about the TG-33? I read that Moby gets his string sound from the SY-22. Have you gotten a cool great string sound from the TG-33? I guess it would be FM mixed with strings? Specifically I'm interested in this string sound in the first tune listening sample. Members Jez
I've not owned a TG33 or even seen one in the flesh, but from the pics of the unit, it looks like there's no way to physically alter the orientation of the display. If it's impossible to read in it's current location, move it! Unless you want to cut out the display and re-mount it, or there's a function to adjust the contrast of the display (it might help, I'm not sure!) then you're stuffed. Maybe a member here who owns a TG33 knows something I don't and can offer you another solution.

Members Texas Noise Factory
I believe there is an adjustment for the contrast on it. Its been far too long ago that I owned my TG-33s. Maybe its a knob on the back? ehhh.... anyway, Yes the TG-33 does mad strings.... really somber and cold pads too. I miss mine.

Members Tony Scharf
Hmm... unfortunate. I really like where it is, but when I am playing my keyboard I cant tell what the display says with out crouching over uncomfortably. What I would *like* to do, would be to hack the thing apart, put it into a proper rack, and somehow put the vector controller into its own little box, connected by a long cable (kinda like a roland programmer, but smaller). I might have to pick up a second TG33 to experiment with (they are certainly cheap enough).

The TG33 is a monster for great pad sounds, but its not like other synths in that it doesnt have any filters (a rudimentary tone control is it). Its also got such a poor FX processor as to beg the question why it was included at all. Take some time to get to know the TG and the vector synthesis, and then use outboard processors to give it a little extra space and its monster pad machine! Its also a great machine to use as a sample source. Some of my best sounds lately are coming out of the TG-33 sampled by the V-Synth GT. They wont win any warmth contests, but the textures I get are absolutely beautiful.
Members Don Solaris
I might have to pick up a second TG33 to experiment with (they are certainly cheap enough). In that case, open the LCD and rotate the top display glass (the one with crystals) for 180 deg. This is really tricky job that requires magnifying glass. So if crystals were like this on the cross section: |\\\| now they should be like this: |//////| the pixels would remain on the same place, just the viewing angle to see them is flipped horizontally. (i guess it should work)
Members OPEN OCEAN
never had it but i think you could do it on the sy 22 so why not on the tg as well since its the rack version ?...
