Members Smachimo the T
I have a half midi setup, I have a great synthesizer, it's a korgz3 but it only takes 23 pin midi pickups drivers? Here is a link to information about the synthesizer http://www.joness.com/gr300/korgz3.htmIt says I could use a gk-1 pickup, but for the life of me-can't find one. (sorry I'm not familiar with the proper jargon) My question is, where can I find a pickup that would work with this? Links would be appreciated. I've already tried contacting korg, they have not answered me (over a month ago)
Members Fuzzlabs
The Korg Z3 synth is about 18 years old now, and hasn't been produced in a loooooong time. It will work with a Roland GK-1 pickup, but they haven't been produced in a loooooong time either. You can occasionally find a new-old-stock GK-1 on Ebay. You can also check into a converter box like this which will allow you to use a 13-pin system (GK-2 or GK-3) as long as you hunt down a 24 pin cable. I think Roland also made a similar box. You may have to spend a fair bit of time searching on Ebay for these esoteric goodies - and if you look you might just find an original pickup/cable for the Z3. Thanks for the advice though.
Members Fuzzlabs
Well... I would personally either go GR-30 or GR-33, the GR-20 seems to be lacking to me. YMMV... I would also keep my eye open for a Z3 pickup/cable combo on Ebay. The Z3 is a different flavor from the Roland stuff, and tracks faster than most. Members Karma1
I've been playing guitar synth since the mid 90's and am pretty knowlegable about the various models, past and current, but that Z3 rig is a new one on me. I've never seen one of those. I think you may have a very hard time finding the pickup that goes with it. I second the opinion to just switch over to a Roland system. I also agree with Fuzzlabs about going for the GR33 or GR30 rather than the GR20. I use a GR33 now (which in my opinion is the best that Roland has made yet) and previously owned a GR30 and they are both excellent units.
Members Fuzzlabs
Easy enough to put an ongoing search on Ebay for both Korg Z3 and Korg ZD3 which is the pickup and cable part. Personally I would go for it, but then I don't sell stuff once I get it Check out http://www.joness.com/gr300/korgz3.htm form more juicy Korg Z3 info... Can you explain more about why you like the GR30/33 more than the GR20? I'm just starting to research this and am trying to figure out which way to go. I also gather the GK3 will work with the GR30 or 33 also? What are the difference between the Gk2/2a and the GK3?
