MIDI Question

Hi guys,

First post here. I have two keyboards, a Yamaha SY99 and a Yamaha QS300. They SY has more keys so I often use that as the controller to play the QS voices. For some reason, I cannot seem to send certain control messages to the QS. For example, if I change the transpose of the SY99 keyboard, the change does not transmit to the QS and therefore the notes don't change. Similarly, if I change the transpose on the QS, and play from SY, the untransposed note of the SY is played.

Also, it seems like I can play the exact same note on the SY as on the QS, only the sound on the SY note is softer. I've double checked my velocity settings, and they match the QS. I'm perplexed.

Any thoughts? Thanks! :thu:

problem#1-Are you MIDI-ng' direct or thru a computer?

Also check your manual to set the receiiving kybd to receive control/patch changes

prob #2

when you say louder what do you mean? If you are asking why 2 different units have different volumes, thats simply a "unit-specific" thing. None of my keys or modules put out exactly the same volume.

Doing Midi Out from the SY to Midi In on the QS. The SY is set to transmit all data, the QS has all filters removed so should be receiving all data. I actually wonder if the format of the SY Midi content is considered NPRN and not being read by the QS. Who knows.

As for the second problem, I personally think it is a function of the first. If I have my headphones in the QS and hit a note, it will come out a certain volume. Hit the same note on the SY, but the volume sounds less (so both times the QS is pushing the note to the headphones. I guess it could be a function of the physical key action, but I dunno...not sold on that yet.

Thanks for the response!
