Members Alexey Bochkarev
I've got a PC with Ableton Live 7.0.2 and M-Audio Axiom 25. Can I recreate AKAI MPC2500 functionality on my PC and use only the MIDI controller to operate my system just like MPC? What software do I need to make it possible? May be there is an AKAI MPC emulation program with the same functionality like real MPC?
Guest Anonymous
Use Battery and your favorite sequencer program. Battery lets you take a drum hit and turn it into chromatic notes to sort of create the classic MPC 16 level sound. The problem you will run into is how tight a MPCs sequencer is compared to software. Another problem is the midrange and low end punch MPC digital convertors have. By the time you buy a controller and software you could own a used MPC1000 and have the real thing. The only crucial difference between a 1000 and 2500 are the number of midi outputs and smaller pads.

Members renegadebliss
On the PC platform, if you are looking for free software, you could combinethese two: Sequenceing:http://www.filter24.org/seq24/ Orginally released on Linux where I first used it, but it has since been ported toWindows. Sampling:http://vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php Haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising... If you want to pay and have a Mac, there is this softare: http://homepage.mac.com/seishu/ssworks/rs16x/rs16x.html I think there's something similiar for the PC, but I couldn't find it, with my google searches, or searches on the mpcforums.com site... That one looks really nice! Just like an MPC. It's a pity they don't have pc version.
Members Meatball Fulton
Dumb question: the Axiom has pads, Live can do the loop-de-loop stuff and includes a soft drum box (Impulse) so what else does he really need to emulate an MPC? And what if he just replaces the Axiom with this? Out of the box, Preset #1 on the MPD32 maps it to Live.
Guest Anonymous
Wow, thanks!Just like an MPC. Not really. I don't see a 16 Level/chromatic mode. This is a very important feature to have. Let's say you want to use a 808 kick for a bass line. You need a 16 Level/chromatic mode. Lets say you have a glockenspiel sample loaded up and you want write a riff. You need a 16 Level/chromatic mode. How abut a tom roll using a snare sound. You need a 16 Level/chromatic mode. Battery is the one.
Guest Anonymous
so what else does he really need to emulate an MPC? See above. The RS-16X software is fail. The MPC32 is win.
Members Alexey Bochkarev
Not really. I don't see a 16 Level/chromatic mode.Could you please explain exactly what it is? Is it like tone shifting or transposing?
Guest Anonymous
Could you please explain exactly what it is? Is it like tone shifting or transposing? It's transposing up and down in half-step increments across all of the pads. With this you can write a riff with any sound. You can take a sound and stack it with it's self in thirds and fifths. The list of cool things you can do is huge. If a drum sample software or hardware offers this you are good.

Guest Anonymous
Let's say A is the root. C is the minor third and E is the fifth. This theory also works with bells, claps, snares or pretty much anything that makes a noise with a some what findable/hearable/tuneable pitch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_(music)
