Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad to share these cool pics of a great moment in time. I took most of those pics in September '06 (the older one in June '03). I have been lucky to find gear that's in great shape and I make sure to keep it that way.

Those first pics were a point when I finally had refined my setup down to what was practical and useful. I had just bought those two Mid-Atlantic racks (new) and the Mackie monitors (which sound great!). All of that consolidating made the creativity flow better for me, if that makes sense. That's partly cause of the practicality and partly just being OCD. I find that I have to clean up cables and reset everything after recording stuff so I can mix it down it with a clear mind. So yeah... the OCD thing is for real. But, it seems to make me able to flow easier when I have a clean setup. The third pic down was after everyhing was wired. Damn, I miss that place :)

I just use two boards in my current setup (mostly cause of space). But, if I have room, I just like to have options and it just looks sweet when they're all stacked up like that. The third pic was the final setup at that place. It was great fun to lay down a groove with drums and a bassline and then head over to the DX-7/JX-10 area and screw around. Those two are a great pair for layers and such! Back then, I also spent alot of time tweaking with the Wavestation EX and also using it as a secondary controller (so I could still play all of the rack modules when I was in the Wavestation/M1 area). It really makes a pretty great controller, you just can't send patch changes in real time. You have to write your settings in a patch memory before it will send a patch change, kinda lame. But, you could split and layer 8 different MIDI channels or split or layer MIDI stuff with the internal stuff.

Alot of the time though, I just sat at the A-80 with a piano patch and sang improvised dreary ditties.... It was a quite functional setup altogether. I ramble... Thanks again for looking and commenting and for letting me share.

I live in Salt Lake City. Yeah, that view was amazing! It was an apartment up by the state capitol. I moved out of that place last fall unfortunately. Man, I miss that place.

I thought that might've been SLC. Wasn't sure though. Was out there last year, nice city.

I used to live in a highrise with a stellar 180-degree view of downtown Denver and the mountains. It provided a great backdrop to work on music with. Now I'm in a basement. Ugh.

Haha Night - I hear you all too well with the OCD thing! Sometimes I just have to unplug everything... put each item perfectly in it's place then re-wire so no cables are tangled, pulled too tightly or sticking out too far from behind the equipment... Nicely velcro'd together and then it's like "ah - zen".

Basements have their perks too. At least it's easy to make it dark and moody. But yeah, having a wide open room with a view can be very inspiring. I live in a lame cookie cutter apartment complex temporarily and can't wait to get back into something a little more inspiring.

There's something fun about cabling and uncabling. I even zip tie my cables to the keyboard stands. I usually have power running down one side. And then zip tie the audio and midi cables along the support tiers under the bottom of the keyboards. It's all about the zen...

Yeah, I'm reaching that point again soon ... luckily, I have a show Wednesday so that means an excuse to tear down the setup and re-do, re-cable everything ... After it's done, I'll admit it's a very "clean" feeling (usually turns into a whole re-do, clean, etc. etc.) ... Right now, I'm at the other end of the spectrum ...
