Members gilwe
We intend to set up a laptop in our live performance to play some sequenced background noises and additional synth roles along with the other live players, sending a click to our drummer so he can sync with the sequencer program. My idea was to use Cubase and send a click which is sent out from the Cubase project via an additional sound card to the drummer. I'm trying to think of other ways to do so, as working with Cubase projects can be too complicated with performing live... Any suggestions ? Members ClavAnother
so are you saying he should just chuck a wireless mice at teh drummer on 1?
Members kooki_sf
does the backing material have to be stereo? cause if not, you could use a cd or mp3 player instead, and just use one track for click.

A corded mouse it better for this since you can easily retrieve it for the next throw...
Members born2die75
yeah but it could get tiring trying to keep up the throw rate at over 100bpm

If you're using Cubase and a laptop anyway it shouldn't be that big of a deal. If your soundcard is only stereo out, you can send the instruments/sequences/etc. out one channel to the main mix and send only a click to the drummer out the second output with no need for an additional sound card unless you need the sounds in stereo. Also, something from the Akai MPC series might be a safe bet if you don't want to haul out a laptop. What other gear is at your disposal?

Depending on the drummer, he may not feel it... :poke:

Members robotsquid
Get a soundcard with multiple outputs, or a drummer that can play along to the music, not just a click.

Gus Lozada
A multi-channel soundcard is the way to go, amigo. This would also imply receving the line-level signal at the drummer's place and having to amplify it for headphone use. Some audio interfaces allow you to route whatever you need to the headphone output, so you can send a nice mix of everything, including a click, via headphones. Use a long cable or have the drummer triggering the sequences.
Members gilwe
Can you think about any creative way to make a drummer able to load the certain Cubase project and triggering them ? Sound like many things can go wrong during live performance with that kind of set up...

Unless you're YMO. Also, you'll find no headphone/headphone amp combo is loud enough for a drummer unless you get closed back/isolation ones, and then they can't hear anything else on stage. gilwe: I'd think about transferring your tracks over to Ableton Live where you can just line them all up and start the track with a midi note sent from an Akai MPD or something similar. You can do all your routing in Live as well quite easily. I'd check out the Live demo first to see if it does it for you before you spend any cash.
