Hi Guys.

I had arranged to sample a real B3 but the guy has backed out on me. He just one of those funny old guys that thinks all technology is evil and Organs still rule the world of music.

So, what's the story with NI B4 v2 ?.

I got the demo but I'm not too impressed by the Quality. A lot of the notes produce noises that could be mistaken for badly looped samples.

The CX-3 on my OASYS is super clean, but then that's not trying to emulate a real B3.

Guess what I'm asking is, does a real B3 sound that noisy ?

Regards.

Sharp.

Personally, I find many of the B4 presets to have way too much distortion for my taste. Regardless of what a "real" Hammond may sound like, it's just a bit much for me.

This is easily remedied by simply lowering the amount of "drive." That knob is at the bottom right of the virtual keyboard.

I've only played with the demo myself, but as I recall you'll need to actually buy the product to be able to save patch edits.

Personally, I think B4 sounds fantastic - I've used it in rehearsals with a classic rock band. The distortion just needs to be dialed down.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I wouldn't have a problem with the likes of the overdrive as I would expect that to introduce noise, but as was mentioned by Outkaster, there is a lot of noise in the upper registers.

Even on a completely stripped down sound, just getting back to the raw tone you still hear lots of noise that sounds like badly looped samples.

Which has me wondering here, is that really how a B3 sounds ?. I find it hard to believe because the notes that do sound right are so smooth and clean.

I can't hear that noise in the upper registers as you say. There IS some leakage on Classic tonewheel model, but on Pure model I can't hear any noise whatsoever. I don't know what are you all talking about...

Oh, and I did this test of mine with DI Box output, no drive, 12 o clock volume, and all the primary drawbars pulled out, and Classic and Pure tonewheels. No noise. Nothing.

VB3 ain't bad. But NI got the overdrive FAR better. GSi overdrive purely sucks.

Well, I too find GSi overdrive a little bit boring, but it can easily be substituted with another plugin. I, for example, use modules from Revalver MkIII for overdrive and it's way better than both VB3 and B4 II. So I don't consider this issue very important.

But for the main organ components, the tonewheels and leslie sim, I think B4 II cannot even be considered as a competitor to VB3. VB3 simply triumphs all over it, not giving even slightest chance.

Ok try this on a pair of head phones.

This is as pure a tone I can get and yet it's got noise in it sounds exactly like a badly looped sample.

Setting it to Pure tonewheel and isolating a single draw bar regardless of which one it is makes only a very small difference. I can still hear the noise very clearly.

If what your saying is that this is normal, I will have to pass on NI B4. Love the sounds, but can't live with the noise.

Unless you were planning to spend a big chunk of your life doing it, I think the old guy did you a big favor. Getting accurate sampling of a B3 would be incredibly tedious and, no offense, but your results would probably suck compared to B4 or other professionally sampled products that you can pick up for a couple hundred bucks.
