Members Moogasaur
Hi, Has anyone had problems with their encoders going bad on their MW XT? I haven't yet (knock on wood), but I've read on the net about people looking for replacements. So I guess I have two questions - 1. How many people have had problems with the MW XT encoders? 2. How many people have found new replacements and sucessfully repaired their XT? I guess I'm a little nervous about the long-term health of my XT. Members ElectricPuppy
I have an XTk, bought used last year. I haven't had any problems with the encoders so far.

Members carbon111
Had my XT for eight years and used it heavily. No encoder issues at all here.
Members evildragon
Be gentle to your XT and you'll be fine It can love you back!
Members Moogasaur
Thanks! I've also had my XT for about 8 years. I guess that's why I'm starting to get a little nervious. If they ever do fail, I hope replacements will be available. It's such an incredible synth, I'd hate to have problems with it. Good to hear nobody has had problems... (so far !). Members grumphh
I can only say the the Cutoff knob on mine has had some erratic value changes, but vigorous spinning helped a bit. Not totally perfect yet though...

Members carbon111
Try 20 complete rotations clockwise followed by 20 complete rotations counterclockwise (all at normal rotation rates). That cleared up some dodgy encoders on my Q rack... If that dosen't work, let me know and I'll try to dig up the Alps part number.
Members Moogasaur
Mine too, though its fine if its not moved too rapidly Come to think of it - I wonder if what you're seeing is an intended feature of the XT - if you spin the encoders faster the interval, or rate of adjustment is increased. That is indeed a feature, if that's what you're observing.

What I'm seeing is erratic values if I rotate quickly, for example if I quickly rotate clockwise to increase the cutoff, it will actually decrease, or jump around. The other encoders perform as you suggest- ie normally.

My XT cutoff knob is erratic too. If start by rotating it clockwise and quickly shift to counterclockwise, I "trick" it into thinking it is still moving clockwise, and the filter cutoff frequency increases rather than decreases during the counterclockwise rotation. Bummer. If there are replacement encoders available, I sure would buy them. Still a great synth though....
