TD-6 and......

My brother has a Roland TD-6. He is not in a situation to spend a lot of money. He wants to by something to expand the available voices he can use beyond what's on the TD-6.

He does not want to use a software based program. He has a very old laptop that causes severe latency issues.

He wants something solid state that he can use in conjunction with the TD-6 brain.

I've told him that he could buy a drum module, sampler, even synth modules. He is new to the game and I have never explored the electronic/synth drum field.

What do you synth drum experts recommend? Sampler, Drum module, synth module, something else?

Oh, he is looking for electro/house/trance sounds.

Thanks for your time.

Roland SPD-S: pad controller/sampler unit.

The guy I play with uses one in three ways: alone, with a snare and maybe a cymbal or two as a portable drum kit or with a full drum kit.

When it's part of the full kit, he loads up all sorts of stuff that may or may not sound like drums. With the other two ways, he loads up kits with varying mixes of naturalistic drum/perc sounds and oddball stuff.
