Members AstralWurks
In both of these songs, these guys get an amazing 80's sound. The band came out in 2004 though. What drum machine is best for those metallic toms and snappy snares heard in both of these?
Members evildragon
Those can be real drums (and in most cases they ARE real drums, so no drum machine), the trick is in a lot of post-processing (using reverbs and gates afterwards for such snare sound, etc.)

Members raffor
Sounds to me a reverse snare combined with the forward one. That is an old trick and can be done either with a drummachine or in your DAW (e.g. Protools). A good drummachine for these kind of sounds is the Sequential Tom. Members evildragon
I pretty much think it's a normal snare, with a dense reverb afterwards, which is then gated. Ask Phil Collins about it
Members suitandtieguy
this doesn't sound very 80s.
