Would you eliminate everything in your studio and replace it with this?

That's what this musician is going to do. He's even getting rid of his PC:confused:

When he says "All the big boys are using it", he only mentions names who make one kind of music. But 30,000 presets? wow!

Anyone of you uses this workstation? I've never seen it mentioned here, and that doesn't sound promising, lol:)

Well, I really hope he won't regret it.

Well, considering what he has, it's a major step up so I don't think there will be any regrets.

I'm sure he's very talented but gear wise, most people here in KSS trump him. The Neko's an awesome piece of kit but not the thing or route for me. I like having gear. Minimal but diverse and I don't mind the wires because part of my major purchases are studio furniture and accessories. Really helps organize and tidy things up. Those that have seen my desk know that I only need 3 foot audio cables for rack unit audio integration. :thu:

I really hope he enjoys it but I'm not one for putting all my eggs in one basket.

The NeKo is essentially the CMI Fairlight of our time. It's a nice workstation for 5 grand. It's not really for me (not yet at least), but I can definitely understand wanting to eliminate cables and simplify in general.

Open Labs is also using a smart approach in their marketing. In looking through YouTube, I noticed that they've got a lot of interviews with top name producers in hip hop (Timbaland, Teddy Riley, etc.) and studio owners, which is apparently encouraging others to adopt the product.

Of course, because a Neko is a PC.

I don't mind it if my computer looks like a computer, instead of a 19" rack unit (Receptor) or workstation (Openlabs). Saves me a whole load of cash, I can have my dual-monitor setup, upgrading is less of a pain and I get to choose the audio interface and controllers that I want to use.

It also isn't much different than a PC loaded with a whole lot of software. *shrug* It's a nice integrated package for the PC, but it's not like the Fairlight days (where the Fairlight could do things nothing else could).

^ you beat me to it.

i can see how neko has an advantage with maybe pianists turned recording artists that have no technical experience.

he's probably just a college guy with a bedroom studio, recording a few friends and trying to sound more important that he really is :idk: the same money would probably be better spent on a PC and a trition / motif.

Since its common to upgrade a computer at least every 3 years to keep up with software development i could never understand why anyone would invest so much money into an integrated solution like the NeKo.

I am actually surprised that they are still in business. Guess they found their niche market with all the R&B and Hiphop guys.

Dumping everything you're familiar with just to get something because "the big goys use it" doesn't sound like the best decision to me, but hey... I'm cynical.

Agreed. Now if the Jewish guys are all using it, that's a totally different ballgame...;)

I checked out the Neko at NAMM, didn't like it, it was clumsy, didn't sound that good to my ears and it was slow and convoluted to navigate (hey, it's a PC)

It seems this guy has a an over-inflated view of himself. Making the "big" announcement-(woo friggin hoo!) cause he's buying a workstation and assuming anyone else would be interested and going as far to make a video production out if it. I cant wait for the big climax of the UPS truck pulling up to his house- now thats drama folks!

BTW- is that a "studio" in the background? Looks like a closet. I have more $ in cases, but I didn't hold a news conference when I got the Oasys.
