M-Audio has got to be kidding, right?

You can't have two M-Audio Devices installed on the same computer. I let a friend borrow my MobilePre USB and while he had it I purchased a Midisport Uno. Installed those drivers and everything and now I've got my audio interface back and can't get windows to recognize it. I've tried everything. Uninstalled the drivers for the Uno, restarted about twenty times. Uninstalled, reinstalled, et cetera ad nauseum and nothing works. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. {censored} those assholes!

Yeah, sure! I just can't believe how none ever noticed before that two devices can not be installed in the same computer! wow...

... Nice rant. Now try updating your Windows to a newer version (say, SP2 right before SP3 or even SP3 if your computer can handle it or Vista SP1) and get the latest driver for your devices, for the exact version of Windows you have.

Make sure your MoBo is updated also, in order your USB ports are running in pace with the Windows version. Additionally, check if you have shared IRQ problems.

... and if everything fails, why don't you call their Tech Support service in the US? Or visit their forum http://forums.m-audio.com/index.php

Yeah, I found that out too about a year ago. Tried to install aMobile Pre-USB and an Audiophile Delta/2496 (PCI) in the same machine with the same results.....

You can have them in the same computer (see above).

You can not use them with the same driver. USB or FireWire interfaces can not be linked to other USB or FireWire or PCI cards with M-Audio drivers. It can be done, I've been told so, but it is out of warranty of operation.

PCI interfaces with S/PDIF or Word Clock ports can be linked to sum I/O in the most of the programs *

* With the exception of Pro Tools M-Powered, which only accepts ONE interface, whatever the model is.

Sorry for the rant. I was just in music creation mode, not let me fix the drivers and call tech support mode. I did make use of their FAQ to attempt to solve the problem, but to no avail. When I have time I'm sure I'll be able to get them both running.

Nothing pisses me off more than dealing with computer issues when I just want to record some sounds. I'm thinking about getting a budget stand-alone HD recorder to free myself from this irritation, which has been a constant cockpunch ever since I got into this hobby (due primarily to always having underpowered computers).

My yamaha px320 usb driver is krap too -- acting kinda like that, but worse, it will lock up the computer completely requiring a manual forced power down. I should note that it only seems to happen if you plug and/or unplug with Sonar running.

Well, yeah- your MIDI devices need to be connected before you start Sonar. And, if you just unplug it, Sonar will time out waiting for active sensing bytes on the USB port that your keyboard's plugged into.

Well, maybe it's something I was doing ... i.e. a cockpit error ... because I was trying out my new keyboard and plugging/unplugging it along with the Edirol PCR. But I've never had this particular thing happen and I've plugged the Edirol in and out. This is the USB interface, not MIDI, but I've for sure plugged and unplugged midi devices without this happening.

I can understand it getting confused if the device disappears, but it should crash the system and create a buzzing tone out of the speakers and requiring a full manual power intervention as nothing was responding.

Anyway not a big deal as I've determined to not use the PX320 USB interface in any case and will just connect via midi when I need to.

P.S. I said Yamaha above and meant Casio PX320....not quite sure how that happened other than I was considering getting the Yamaha P85.

How do you like the casio as master keyboard? how do you like its sensitivity? I mean i think its sensitivity curve is not adjustable right? so, how do you feel it?

I'm not really using it connected to Sonar, but standalone just to try and learn to play piano. :) The main reason I got it was for the feel which I though was better than the Yamaha P85. I'm certainly not an expert, but to me it feels very much like a real acoustic piano. It does not have adjustable feel.

I am expecting a Yamaha Np30 within the hour (missed the delivery yesterday) and that will be used more to interface to Sonar. :)

I have 2 MIDISports connected to my computer (running XP). For a long time I got a message during boot up that there was a problem with the installation of one and it might not work but it did. I finally got around to trying to resolve it and was able to install both correctly. IIRC, there is some info. on the M-Audio website that explains how to install the drivers properly to get 2 devices to work together. It may be in the FAQ section.

Good Luck.

The M-Audio Knowledge base pages indicate that 2 M-Audio USB audio devices can't be installed on the same computer. It also indicated that sometimes windows installs the standard windows audio driver for the MIDISport. Try uninstalling both devices and then first installing the MIDISport and make sure it installs the MIDISport software. Verify the MIDISport is recognized as a MIDI device first and then install the audio device.
