Members astral
Hi all, I am looking to get away from the never ending presets that come with vst's. Can someone recommend a good analog synth, that can be purchased from musicians, not so much, friend. In the style of depeche mode, new order, some industrial, and who knows everything else. Thanks for the tips all!!!!!!!!
Members ElectricPuppy
$3K and you want to get away from presets? Enter the world of Modulars.
Members astral
when dealing with virtual synths its easy to get lost in the array. I'm looking to find a nice hardware analog synth with midi capabilities that I can master...
Members girevik
Used Moog Voyager (got mine on ebay) would be a good starting point. Not only does it have a keyboard and touchpad, it can also function as a control voltage controller (keyboard sends out velocity & aftertouch as CV signals). You can later build a modular analog system around it. Keep in mind polyphony is not a strength of modulars and the Moog is of course monophonic. Perhaps the remainder of the budget to be spent on a Prophet 08 for polyphony. Another alternative to both of the above: Alesis Andromeda (if you can find any on sale anywhere). Yet another alternative if you're willing to relax the "must be real analog" requirement: Hardware VA synths (Nord, Access, etc.). John Bowen Solaris is supposed to be the shiznit. A couple of Real Analog synth owners love this thing. But it might be a bit above $3k at $3899 final price (need to put down $1000 deposit). Not sure about exact polyphony - check with the owners. Members girevik
is it ok to posts links here of synths I'm considering. Unless they are synths you are selling, the forum mods probably won't have a problem, so go ahead post those links.
Members Gribs
If you need polyphony and have 3K to spend then I think the Alesis Andromeda is the way to go.

Members astral
so far I'm looking at these 2 http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dave-Smith-Instruments-Prophet-08-?sku=702880 http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-Andromeda-61Key-Analog-Synthesizer?sku=705590 I think i see that the prophet has no audio in. Ive also never known alesis to be in the forefront of the analog gae, but i dont have extensive knowledge in the area. Nothing stands out though,. Members girevik
Dude if the Andromeda really is in stock (Musician's Friend is notorious for listing stuff as "in stock" then sending emails out later saying the item isn't actually in stock for a while), I'd go for the Andromeda over the Prophet 8, if I had to choose between the two. If you do a forum search or just hang here long enough, you'll see how revered the Andromeda is in these parts.
Members cram1960
Why are you attached to Musician's Friend? Do you have a credit there?
Members astral
yea, cause of credit with them Still trying to wrap my head around analog alesis....Ive had alesis keyboard in the past and it was ok,,,,but really nothing special. not bad at the time though
Members ChristianRock
There are plenty of demos for those two on the internet. I'd go for the A6 myself, easy answer there. I think once you hear enough demos of both, you'll agree that the A6 filters sound much better than the Prophet's.
Members astral
Do you guys think there are any vst's out that come close to the andromeda in sound quality??

I rarely see anyone put up their Andromeda for sale, compared to the number of Prophet08's put up. Just buy the Andromeda and put masking tape over the Alesis part. That'll cure your psychological problem.

Members Mediterranean
Bought, done thanks all. Thread started at 01:57PM Machine bought at 04:10PM Dayyymmmm, congratulations!! This is the first time I see someone order something the same day he's been advised to. I wonder if buying a combination of analog synths for 3K would have been a better decision. Awake77 owns an Andromeda. I'm sure he'll answer a lot of your future questions:) Congrats again!
