Members Turk 182
I was wondering if anybody can direct me to free VSTi plugins that can give me some sounds to use as pad sounds just to have a pleasing chord progression going on under the music for songs I record (I'm an amateur). I downloaded a few plugins from KVR and they didn't really do it (or at least I couldn't get them to). The truth is, its hard for me to make heads or tails of the descriptions of the VST synths there because I don't get the lingo. It seems like these sounds are pretty common...they're probably the most common synth sounds I hear in popular music on the radio when I make it a point to really listen for them, so I figure should be able to find something workable...Anyway, I have Mackie Tracktion recording software and I am able to use the virtual keyboard from Tracktion that I pull up on the screen to "play the part." I just need the plugin to create the sound from the MIDI part I play and record...something along the lines of the underlying pad sound that comes into this song at 51 seconds. (sorry for for the song choice, but its a good example of what I am looking for!)
Members evildragon
Dude, that's not a pad, that's actual orchestral strings You can get synth strings sounds with any subtractive synthesis VST really. Try Oatmeal, it's free and has a gazillion options.

Members evildragon
Oatmeal is a gem of a VST. And most of all it's free. Too bad the GUI kind of sucks.
