Members moog man
When I was 14 I took care of my neighbors dogs and mowed lawns. Got my first keyboard that way!

I don't have a lawnmower, and people around where I am don't really do that kind of thing, unfortunately and I don't really live in a "neighborhood" type kinda place where I can just walk to my neighbors
Members Mysteron
Depends where you live. right now around here its hay season and the locals are always looking for kids to buck hay. When I was your age I would wash cars, mow lawns and walk the neighbors dogs for a few bucks.
Members moog man
Haha, yea recessions do some interesting things to the stereotypes of the work force. The only other thing I can think of is being a bus boy at a restaurant. I know a younger guy who has bought an FRXS and a couple foogers that way. Members flat earth
Do your research, get savvy on whats worth what, scour your local classifieds for grannys selling their Jupiter 8 'pianos' they found in the loft, buy some gear, flip it in ebay. Voila! instant wealth. ( in principle but ........... just about everybody else and their friend is doing the same )

I need special working papers that I can only get at 14 to be a bus boy, i think... and to the above, there's no hay where I am, and people wouldn't trust a kid with their fancy cars here.. Members Mysteron
Flat Earth has a good idea. I had a friend years ago who spent an entire year scouring garage sales, studying books on antiques and silver (his specialty) and buying and selling. He made enough in that year to make enough outside his regular job for a 2 month trip to the UK, and this was before Ebay or Craigslist. Another solution is, if you're looking for money to buy synths, learn to repair them and then buy broken ones off Ebay. There are plenty of circuit books for various models around, plus it gives you some skills you can use later in life.

Members Tomkeen
At 13 I had a paper round. A 15 I immediatly got a job as stock boy in a supermarket. I've had several jobs since then, ending up in a supermarket again, only now as a butcher. There must be enough to do in NY, help stores out in the morning or do shopping for old people or something..

Members Tomkeen
EP, I don't like to study I know it sounds cliche, but you have to. Especially in these times, having an education is very important and it will probably get even more important in the future. I don't like to study myself, I have absolutely zero motivation for studying, but I realise it's important, and sometimes I wish I finished my building engineer school. Members Gribs
You seem like an intelligent and precocious go-getter and you are really good at being respectful and chatting maturely online so I think you have potential for a good professional career ahead of you in a field of interest that you will discover sometime. Practice piano and forget electronic gizmos for a few years. Study math, science, music, history, at least one language outside your native tongue, and learn a hard-core programming language like C++ and a scripting language like Python (Microsoft has a FREE version of Visual C++ that you can download and install and Python is free anyway). Join two or three clubs at school like band, orchestra, choir, debate team, math team, robotics team, history club, theater club, or model United Nations club (I was in Band, Jazz Band, theater as a pit band player, Model UN, math team, and a church youth group). Live your life and soak up everything you can while your brain is young - you will soak in more now and keep it with you. Your opportunity to become a multidimensional person is right now. It will increase your chances of getting into a good program of your choosing at a good college and succeeding at your chosen field. One place where a younger kid can make some money is in babysitting. I know it sounds weird for a guy but I used to do it. Our pediatrician's daughter is 13 and charges 8 dollars an hour to babysit and is always busy. You can take a Red Cross class for that and get a certification card and then start advertising around your neighborhood. Edit - I forgot to mention that when I was 16 I took the Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving course and got my certification, which opened up the life guarding job market for me. It was easy to find a job doing that, even during the winter at school pools that had open evening swims.
