Members Peekaboo Fuzzy
I have a chance to buy a Prophet 600 that is advertised as in "mint condition" whatever that means exactly, but apperently the seller means everything is working perfectly. I know the prices for these have gone up, but is that too high of asking price currently? There was no "OBO" after the price. If this is priced too high, what should I offer? Shipping would be from LA to East Coast. Finally, what other questions should I ask regarding its feature set, operating system, etc. so I can be rest assured it is worth having shipped all that way? Thanks!
Members jjdugan3
I think it's a little high.I bought one with a bad voice for $350.00 recently.Replaced the chip and voila, fully functioning 600.Noteit has a comprehensive page on SCI synths, heres a link to finding a bad voice. The main page has other info as well.http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2163/600badv.html
Members sleepykeith
"mint" means a million different things depending on who's saying it. i wouldn't pay $800 for a p600 unless it looked like it just came out of the box and i got to play it first. "everything works" is not the same as mint. seems like there are enough p600 out there, one in your area should pop up soon. i'd offer up $450 for it at most, but then i wouldn't bother looking for old keyboards that are across the country. Members flat earth
Seems a little steep to me. I'd take sleepykeiths advice and offer $450. Maybe go upto $500 if need be. None the less, a very nice Synthesizer
Members McHale
"mint" means a million different things depending on who's saying it. You mean like this? http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/msg/1325005810.html This is a Korg MS2000 Modeling Synth. Sounds great. In great cosmetic condition. One missing knob. But, you can still turn the pot easily with your fingers. One 1/4 inch jack and the power jack act a little funny. But, they are still functional. It especially doesn't matter if you are not running 1 output to your amp like most people do. Clearly, HIS definition of "great" is not the same as my definition. I always assume the worst on old gear unless I know the seller, played the gear or get an unbelievable deal. -Mc
Members Peekaboo Fuzzy
Thanks. I'm affraid offering $450 might seem to low though?
Members Mysteron
I concur with the opinions expressed here. Even if he paid shipping, $800 is still a lot for a Prophet 600. My top offer would be $550 and only if he paid to ship it and it came with all the documentation.
Members tspit74
Sounds way too high. I borrowed a P600 for a couple days about 15 years ago. I didn't spend enough time with it, but my impression back then was that it was very limited. Now that I have more experience under my belt, I'd love to take one around the block again. However, $800 for a synth that old doesn't interest me. None of these thing were designed to work as long as they have. If you've never played one, wait until one turns up in your area. There are plenty out there. If you're willing to pay $800, put out the word here or on your local Cragslist and see if anyone bites. The P600 is a lot like a Juno 106. Cool for 400 bucks, until you have to start repairing it. Over $400, and you'll start wanting more oscillators and modulation capabilities. Members gilwe
is that too high of asking price currently? Definitely yes.

Members mrcpro
Feature set is widely available on the web. I know that they have gone up some, but that price is still way high. I paid $350 for my fully functional P600 a couple of years ago on local CL. P600s are not all that rare and I'd suggest trying to find one closer to home. There's this thing about buying used analog this old. You are much better off if you can demo it in person. Check for missing voices, make sure all the pots are working properly, make sure all the membrane switches on the keys are intact and triggering properly, and especially on a P600 make sure that the numpad switches all work. Members stikygum
I bought my SCI P600 for $200. The poly mode doesn't work, but the unison does and that's all I wanted. They're nice, but no need to pay high prices for these boards.
Members myfriendfive
I paid $450 for a bascially new in the box original owner P600 off ebay a few years ago. It came with the box, cassette, footswitch and manual. The box still has the original UPS tag showing it was shipped from Sequential to the Hollywood Guitar Center. Members Chando
I find it funny that people almost brag about the low price they paid for a non-fully functioning Prophet 600. Korg Polysix -$600Prophet 600 -$800Akai AX60 - $500 are usually not fully functioning or are in bad shape. All are awesome "mid-grade" polysynths. I put what I believe are their true "mint" prices. IMO of course.

Members Chando
I really don't think the Tetra will sound anything like the P600. edit: prolly a lil bit like it Has anyone even heard the Tetra played as a real polysynth?

Members carbon111
They're good for all but the snappiest bass lines IMHO. To my mind, the main problem with the P600 is the too-coarse knob quantization on a number of panel controls. There are some nice surprises though, like the CV-in jack for filter cutoff and a couple of other goodies. The P600 is certainly a mixed bag but I love it.
