Cheapest place to get studio foam panels?

This stuff isn't cheap. Still I'd like to dampen my bedroom enough so that i can play my guitar at night without bothering my roommates too much.

The walls are pretty solid, most the sound that gets though are the higher echos and stuff, so i think a bit of foam in my room will keep a but from getting out, and some foam in the hallway will keep more of their voices from getting into my room.

Anyway, where's the cheapest place to get some nice foam? I'm not going to hang up ugly ass bed eggcrates.

The foam panels do nothing for soundproofing, they're only designed for reducing slapback echoes and increasing diffusion. The sound will still pass through the wall, only very slightly diminished.

For soundproofing you need mass. A couple additional layers of sheetrock works great. Auralex makes a heavy vinyl material that works well too...but it's expensive.

Listen to Carbon. If soundproofing or sound lowering is your goal look to sheetrock or paperboard with an air space.

A definite step up from egg cartons would be going to your local foam dealer. By that I mean one who sells many different types of foam for furniture restoration etc and doesn't directly aim for the studio market. Often it comes in charcol grey 3x4 panels and has good thickness. They can even custom cut the foam for defusion for an extra fee.

The local foam dealer in Eugene told me it isn't real unusual to have customers looking for studio foam. A local TV station apparently even purchases from them.
