I should be getting mine by the end of next week I was told? Some kid saw one in GC in CA Southbay. I called them and they are not breaking on the price of $2399.00.

Ok - you have an S90 don't you... are upgrading to the S90XS?

all the GC's I've dealt with (4 different ones in my area) won't budge on anything anymore. Everything is MAP price and that's that.

Just a courteous FYI, you don't think it's anymore or less GC's fault in the pricing restrictions when Yamaha is such a cheap company, right?

I own a Yamaha synth, but I'll never be 1st in line to buy one.

Buying used, I could sell it today for what I paid for it used, and not take a huge hit.

Back on track:

I look forward to the S90XS, but I may not buy one.

The new piano does sound nice.

That's true also...as it's a brand new board and all. But GC as of late doesn't budge on anything unless it's one of their "EVERYTHING OFF WEEKEND" deals. :D

I agree. There are only a few *O.G.* guitar center employees I

still talk to from the golden years...

I get in this crap economy they have to tighten their belts, but

we all as consumers feel the pinch as well.

I called GC and inquired about a shockmount.

My guestimate was, "it can't be more than 20-25.00, right?"

They wanted retail $49.99 for some crap made in China cheapy mount

and told me he'd be happy to take $7 off:poke:

I've had the S70XS for two weeks, but have had little time to really dig into it. First impressions are solid and I'll be back to write more about it.

Regards,

Eric

Eric - is the interface any less complicated than the S90ES?:rolleyes::cool:

yamaha UI will always be complicated my friend. but once you get used to the logic, there's no turning back.

the new piano sample is very very italian sounding, in a good way

I tried the S90XS today at Guitar Wanker.

I LOVED the fact that there's dedicated Octave button - handy if you get the S70 76 key version (which looks really attractive to me, after dragging around the 88 key S90ES behemoth for the last 9 mos!) - also Transpose, Split & Layer buttons.

These dedicated buttonw beat the HELL out of digging thru menus on my S90ES.

I am messing about with the S70XS tonight, hooked up with my full live rig. The UI is easier than the previous models, once you get used to some new stuff. Setting up splits and layers is MUCH easier and there are more dedicated buttons and other hardware goodies for live tweaks. Sounds are nice. I like it.

Eric

...so will you use the S70XS as your dig. piano keyboard of choice on your bottom tier (of a 2 tiered rig)? I know it's replacing an original S90 but didn't you also pick up a PC3X as well somewhere along the way, Eric - or was that just a review model?

The S70XS is a review unit -- I'm doing the KB Mag review. I will be using it as an S90 Classic replacement, at least temporarily or more likely a permanent addition if it works out. I don't have the PC3 any longer...had that about a year ago and kept it for 6 months before going back to Yamaha (with a Nord Stage stop along with way). The S90 Classic has remained my tried and true lower board since 2003.

Eric

There's an S90XS in the Clakamas GC (suburb of Portland OR) for those of you in the area. I only spotted it but didn't have the time to play it. My visual impression was that it's too big to consider for my purposes, and that the display looks completely out of place on a unit of this size and price.

I spent what little time I had on the PX-330 and was very impressed. I'll get back in there again soon when I have more time.

The S70XS/90XS does have some GREAT new features & fabulous sounds but I agree about the display - it's pretty small, for the size of the keyboard. I think my S90ES display is actually bigger.
