Vox Super Continental and Westminister amp

I have a 41 year old Vox Super Continental organ and Westminister amp that I would like to sell. These were mine brand new years ago and have been used about 20-30 times, and are both in perfect, like new condition, the organ with its stand and cords etc., and both have been stored in a nice climate controlled bedroom for the entire time. The Westminster had a hole cut into it to add a tweeter when new to add to high pitch tunes.

These are very heavy and delicate items, and pickup is recommended.

In the Boston area.

Because of the vintage and rare nature of these items, and the condition, I am starting at $8000 for the combo.

The super is a pretty rare vox. Good luck getting the money out of it. A really clean one prolly is worth it to the right person.

I wish you every bit of luck, but you may be disappointed. Then again, I don't know amps...

Do you belong to the Yahoo Combo Organ group? If not, & you don't want to join, I'll be glad to post a notice for you. Those guys are ravenous collectors of such gear. Got pics/model #?

I've been tracking eBay sales of combo organs for over 10 years now, and have a massive database with thousands of transactions. I don't know how much the amp is worth, but I can tell you that your Super Continental by itself would fetch appprox $1,500-$2,000. Unless that amp is worth $6,000, you've got it priced too high.

I know market value of Vox amps and combo organs.

You're asking way too much. The Westminster is no AC30 and doesn't command that much on the vintage market. Yes they may be like new condition but being 40+ years old they are way overdue for a recap.

Thanks, glad to be here.

Not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, but, here's a Continental and Berkley II amp that just sold for $1,258:

Untested, which always detracts from the value somewhat, but it looks to be pretty intact, including the stand case. The fact that the seller is reluctant to ship detracts from the value, too. Single-manual Continentals usually sell for more than Supers. I know very little about vox amps, so i don't know how the Berkley II compares with the westminster.

Your year westminster is not worth much in terms of vintage amps. If it's 41 years old then it's a solid state model and that is not desirable at all. In fact, the speakers may be worth almost as much as the amp itself. The speakers are desirable. The Vox amp worth the most money is the AC30. The rarest of AC30s would be the two input EL34 with EF86 preamp tubes I would think. But even that amp might not fetch $4K.

Definitely, this guy's asking price is WAY too high. I've seen perfect Super Continentals go for $2k. So hypothetically, even if it was brand new, still in its packaging in the original cardboard box, how much would that be? $3k? So even if the amps worth another thousand, then he's still asking three grand too much.

But this dude joined the forum simply to schill his merch. Chances are, he'll never log in or post again.

I wish he'd prove me wrong, and reply here, to at least give us his rationale for his asking price.

I ditched a continental prolly 4 years ago. It needed work. Had a clunker or two keys. It was beat to {censored} from giggin it. I didnt want the hassle of trying to sell it. No idea what it was worth. Knew of no one to fix it. I lugged it from house to house for 30 years. I dont regret it lol.

Would you give me directions to the ditch?

no idea where it went. We have a junk day every spring , put it on the side of the road ,, they haul it away. It was time for the thing to leave my house with as little effort on my part as possable. I unloaded an old fender leslie, that was inop and a fender rhodes 88 and a fender mustang style bass to a guy who buys old stuff. I look at that gear, and said to myself ,, you aint ever gonna use any of that crap. The only thing i really scrapped was the vox organ. I did keep the volume pedal and the wiring harness to the leslie rig. I may sell those to collectors one of these days..or JUST TRASH THEM.

A vox organ volume pedal definitely has value, maybe $100 or more. No idea about the Leslie harness, but not much, I would think.

Many old organs have significant value even as parts cows, but they're often hard to get rid of unless you're willing to part them out yourself. There's a trashed Super Continental that's been on Craigslist in NY (I think) for weeks now, with the price steadily dropping. It's down to $200 now, and still no takers. If someone were to part it out, they could easily get 2-3 times that out of it, but it would take some work. If I were anywhere near it, I'd go grab it in a heartbeat

Before trashing another instrument like that in the future, please at least post a craiglist ad offering it free to anyone who comes to get it. If you're anywhere near a large metro area, I bet you get deluged with responses.

Now that I finally have a good Hammond console, the only other organ I'd consider buying (to keep) is a connie. A super would be the ultimate combo organ for me, but apparently not for the majority of combonauts (I'm not such a purist). Ah, well, maybe someday I'll find a fixer-upper. In a ditch. Next to a Leslie 122...

I was well aware of the fact that some people would have a use for an old clapped out vox combo organ. I guess my logic at that point was ,,,i wanted it out of my hair, without having to deal with the hassle. I also didnt want to give away old vintage to some stranger off of craig's list. I am a little shy about strangers. I am gone from that that house 6 months a year. I dont need someone breaking in looking to snatch off the stuff I didnt get rid of.

I understand your point.... but it was a risk reward decision for me. I figured the vox pedal was worth hangin on to. As for the fender leslie harness. I would guess that might be worth more than a standard leslie harness. Those old fender leslie units are pretty rare. The guy was honkin me about the harness when i sold the leslie to him. I just said , I have no idea where it was.
